impact screwdriver

Does anyone know where to buy the bits for impact screwdriver? I have plenty different size phillips and common bits. I need torx, square drive, posi drive, ect. Thanks in advance.

If your going to use it in a impact I would get some from snap-on, Mac, or Matco -- the ones with a warranty. anything torx under a 30 will twist off with a good impact.

The cheap impact drivers I had have a removable end and you can use a 3/8" square socket on them. Most hardware stores will have the torx and other tips with the socket end.

hmm... we run the harware store color coded ones to drive huge GRK's into wood, i think the only reason they ever get replaced is they get lost... you shouldnt be putting enough torque on a t25 or smaller bolt to twist the bit off.

I get all my stuff at the local ace. and i run the 3/8" socket adapter to pull everything apart. makes for some VERY quick work on a lot of projects... good investment for working on sleds.

Good point, Since this is the general snowmobiling section and I don't remember wood being on any sleds lately I didn't think about wood, in which case they will work, but if you try and take the torx out of the AC secondary or what ever with a impact something is going to break, I also work in the automotive industry (where I have broke even 40's) so not much wood there but when I was trimming out houses they all worked in wood from what I remember.

i just have put in big enough screws that it will stop the impact, so figured if it should break the bits, thats when it would happen, but i guess the wood might soften the impacts preventing breakage.

I havnt had trouble with them breaking so thats why i wasnt sure what trouble you had. I have had cheap free bits that come with screw packs strip the ends off. but never snap totally. The only thought i have is not to impact stuff that hasnt been taken off in a while, i have snapped many bolts off as they dont seem to like the impact when fuzed in, just never busted a driver.

how many foot pounds does your impact driver have that your worried about breaking bits your local hardware store will have the bits that will work unless your using some kind of air powered impact

I've snapped more than one high quality bits, and twisted them also. Maybe it has to do with what impact you use. I have even broke the 1/4 driver.

Yep, with an impact it's not the torque but the shock load that breaks the tips. Snap-on holds up much longer than the cheaper brands.

bits

If you're ever at an industrial supply house, look for Apex brand bits. We use them to remove aircraft panel screws. They hold up very well, in this application we are not using an impact screwdriver though.

I believe Fastenall carries them.

When shopping for bits on our manufacturing floor i use Mcmaster Carr, great website and high quality stuff. I have used Apex bits before with good luck, and also wera.

I thought you were talking about this kind.... EricW gave me one (Thank you EW).... 2 years ago and it is one of my most used tools... BUT not in the same category as the one in the pic above.
