If you have an XP I'd try to get Insurance on it!

D
I have 08 154 X and pretty much ended up totalling it this past weekend and i don't have any insurance! I smacked a rock on the left side and thought all it was, was a bent lower a arm. I ended up riding it for the rest of the day then looked at it again a couple days later and I noticed i ended up tearing up the nun. Well i was going to take it into the dealer and have them relpace the nun and an a arm. Well comes to find out, all 4 a arms are shot, the tunnel is bent, i damaged the chain case, and some other things. I'm sure how much it is going to cost to replace all of the following but if i were you guys i would make sure your sleds are fully insured! I was planning on insuring it just hadn't gotten around to it. I could kick myself right now!

My wife made shure I got insurance before the snow hit.
I gess she thinks I'm hard on stuff?
Sorry to hear about yours.

Insurance or not. you may have to wait a while as my buddy's ride is sitting at bow cycle with half the parts to fix that same problem on back order until who knows when

Bummer, I had a simmilar experience happen to me this year. Takes all the fun out of it. Since we are on the subject I have my sleds insured through Progressive does anyone have a company that they think is better or has a lower premium?

Insurance is an absolute necessity on a $10,000 sled. I gave mine a workout on my first ride back in late November (smack a tree dead center). $3100 worth of damage to my XP with only 25 miles on it.

It took exactly four weeks to get all the parts and one full day to put my XP back to original condition. The "s module" took the longest. XP parts availability is a serious concern this year.

Steelhead...I have mine through Safeco for $300 a year. It is insured at $10,000 stated value with $300,000 on the liability. Safeco requires supporting business though(home or auto).

Silver Griz what did you end up tearin up when you hit the tree? They didn't give me a quote yet, but i know it is going to cost a lot to fix.

Pipe, S Module, skid plate(just scratches but insurance replaced), and all of the plastic from the hood forward. Try to find a new take off pipe if you need one. Retail for a new one is $550!

Wow! you ended up doing a lot of damage! I know i need the s module which is around $300, i'll need a E module (or engine bulkhead) and i think those are around $250, they said i need a new tunnel because mine is bent and who knows how much that will end up costings, they also said i did something to my chaincase and who knows how much that will cost, and all 4 a arms (upper and lower) and i know that will probably cost $500 or more. so i got myself in a pretty big hole! Sure wish i would have insured

hey do it...you should have automatic coverage for 30 days after purchase..check with your car insurer .....I use statefarm and thats how they are..have 1 month to inform them of purchase from day of purchase

Only problem with that is that i got the sled in Nov.:(, but thanks for the idea!

Unloaded my XP out of the shipping container yesterday morning, drove right back to work, and immediately called my insurance agent! Allstate, $400 premium for full coverage for the entire year, with a $500 deductible. I didn't even search around, just went through my local agent, who already has my cars, my house, my boat, my plane, and now my sled. I am sure that I could have gotten a cheaper rate if I had shopped around, but I wanted to be ready to ride NOW. I made sure that my coverage included any collision damage, drivetrain breakage (drive axle? lol), theft, fire, flood, neighbor's dog eating my seat, shop collapsing on it, and any other random acts of God or Murphy....

$10,000+ snowmobile with full coverage insurance - Good idea!!

You all know I ride cat, but since were on the ins subject I'll throw this one at you guys.

Early season, climbing a hill, I center punch a boulder which sends me flying
6' into the air. Ends up I bent my tunnel. The sled is rideable, but will need a new tunnel after the season, and I have a feeling that after I unbolt the skid, I'll find some bent susp parts.
So my question:
Do I turn this into insurance???? Parts so far are: New tunnel and rivets $225.00. Any rear susp parts would be up to $300 for all new arms (shocks would be another $400 but they are not bent). I think 1 arm is bent and that costs $109.
So it looks like a total of $335, and 20 hrs of my time to change it out during the summer.

My ins deductible is $100, my premium is $256 a year. And I have very good coverage.
I always figured the ins was for something catastrophic such as if it was stolen, or ridden off a cliff. I also have it setup so the first $5k of my medical bills are paid if I get hurt. My health ins has a $5k deductible which would now be paid thanks to my snowmobile ins.

I fear that if I turn this in, I would be cancelled next year. I've never had a claim, but again figure it is for something major.

So what do you think, turn it in, or fix it yourself and pay the premium again next year.

PS, if I turn it in, my dealer will fix it for me and credit me the parts that I have already purchased.

dmkhnr, if that were mine, I'd just fix it my self, and not turn it into the insurance company. I doubt they will cancell you, but your rates will go up for the next 3 years. They'll get there money back from you some how. That's just how it works. Plus, you have all summer to work on it. That's better than just going out in the garage and starting it up, and sniffing fumes for 15 minutes a week. For $235 it's not really worth it to have that accident on your record for 3 years IMO! Unless you hate working on your sled, and just want your dealer to fix it for you, then it could get expensive, and might be worth turning in.

Ins.

Dooitinthesnow, I have my sleds ins. through Country Ins. Great people to work with and the rates are the best!!! Two XPs 800 $366.00 per year (total for both) with 250,000/ $500,000 coverage $250.00 ded. Also have 3 Yami's '97 600/ '00 500/ '01 600 all MM's $373.00 for all, same as other coverage. For the $ it is cheep for that kind of coverage.Sorry to here about the XP,:( I would never go out on the sled's without ins to many things could happen that might not even be your fault. Hope you get it fixed soon:)

Sorry to hear that, I insure everything. Ya just never know. :face-icon-small-blu

Never to late to put insurance on it and claim it a week or so later. There is no accident report needed so who is to say when the damage occurred
If push come to shove, your buddies know the saying " You lie I swear by it" ?
Not that I would do such a thing but I have seen it done ;)

I"ve turned in two claims to my insurance one was only $1000 and the other was a complete total. $8,000. My insurance went up the same amount both times and I got a letter that said if I dropped my wife (she wrecked them both) my rates would go back to where they were. I laughed because it was a total of $16 a month change for the two wrecks ($8 increase each time).

I use USAA for everything

Thats interesting about the increase being $16 a month. That almost doubles the yearly cost of my policy.
I'm probably just going to fix it myself, like stated above, as I already have the parts and can do it over the summer. I was just thinking that I have the ins. So I should use it.

I think I'm just going to suck it up and pretty much order all the parts i need ($2,975.51 worth!) Then decide if i want to do it myself or have the dealer put it back together. I pretty much have to order a whole new chassis. My word of advice is if you hit a rock and slightly tweak your s module, call it a day! I think riding the sled hard, after i hit the rock caused all my problems. And as soon as I get it back together i am insuring it!!! Thanks for all the sympathy!
