if this doesnt hit home i dont know what will....everyone needs to watch this!

Excellent post. You're so right that if this doesn't hit home, nothing will. I watched this video last year, but this year it seems to mean so much more with what has been happening.

Mmm, I don't think the Thunderstruck crew shared this with people to sell their films. Isn't it interesting that Trennis says his helmet was ripped off, his nose, mouth and ears were packed with snow, he couldn't move (swim). Some wisdom here, first hand experience here. I support the TS crew, I did not buy their films to watch Trennis almost die, I buy them to watch all of them ride.

Too many deaths this year, each year. Maybe we can learn more about how to avoid or how to survive an avalanche if that is possible. Seriously doubt its about making money!

Trennis' words really hit me. He is a great guy and a tough as nails guy! listen to the end. And Jim Phelans's comments off camera right after the slide say a lot too. Thanks for posting this.

Great vid. Really good to hear what it was like "inside the slide" to help those who think they can just ride it out or swim if they are caught in one.

Very powerful video.

Thank you for posting it.

No escape route.

Notice it broke when he got close to the shallow or more unstable snow around the rock out cropping.

Thank God for the outcome!!

May we all learn all we can from this video.

"It broke at the top just like last year"..........
Doesn't anybody get it?
I was next in line to climb that hill, if it wouldn't have been Trennis it could have been me.
Nobody bothered to tell me this hill had slid last year and be careful.
Hmmmm.
Another mistake that was never brought up. Trennis's beacon was in his jacket hanging in a tree. Could have been a fatal mistake.
Hope we all learn from this.
Don't mean to stirr the pot, just the facts.

Damn, I don't get out of the truck without a beacon, and I would have to say if doing climbs like that I would have a av pack 4 sure....IMHO

It's an obvious avy potential spot, it doesn't matter if it broke last year or not, it has the potential. That's what people need to remember is that at some point if the conditions are right, alot of the hills we climb can and will slide. Adding 700lbs of sled and rider cutting trenches in the snowpack is going to have a huge effect on that.
I can't believe he wasn't wearing his beacon. I bet he doesn't do that again.

We all make mistakes, we just need to learn from them. Too many death's this year. Please be careful everyone. Remember to buckle you helmet too!

I think that happened in about 2001 if I remember right and I've probably seen that clip about 10 times. You can never have too many reminders.

Amen! we just finished our film shoot and have to say with the UTMOST respect that Geoff "Phatty" Dyer, Ryan Nelson and Dan G are HANDS DOWN the most professional ambassadors to safety and respect I have been with. Equip checks, comm checks and plans all put into play... TRULY respectful of the realm in which we play..... I too have watched this in horror EVERYTIME I see it and as Scott had stated above NEVER TOO MANY REMINDERS....

Formal opportunity to thank the Boondockers crew and our Team Summit crew for the safe return from my best ride in a long time..... I will sign with this pic from 10,700' an ominous sight at this last shoot

Very good post. It should be something that everyone should watch on a daily basis, or at least before heading into the mountains.

Scary. Watching that gave me serious goosebumps.

As said before... beacon goes on at the trucks, doesn't get shut off or taken off till i'm back at the truck. Just not worth my life or someone else's that depends on that equipment.

And buckle your helmet.... but that's another thread.
