Idaho site members ride any ideas

That's freakin cool. Not many people would make that offer. Let's keep this rolling and make sure it happens. Depending on when it happens maybe we should try to do a ride on the side of the state either a month earlier, or later, depending on scheduling.

This would be AWESOME!!! I live in McCall and would love to help show folks around. I'm just an old man that likes to ride sleds(off trail if possible). I just have a little problem with treewells.
I have gotten acquainted with some fellas from Washington that have come over for the last few years around the first of March. They are about my kid's age, in their late 20's & early 30's and we have a great time. I've been fortunate enough to be able to show them new country every year.
With that being said, I would like to suggest the last weekend of February or the weekend before that.
The last weekend of January through the first weekend of February is our winter carnival and town is crazy. The local club usually puts on a fun run on the last weekend of the carnival.
There are around 9 motel/hotels in town and if you get on line there are some rental agencies that you can rent cabins, condos, and homes for the weekend. Donnelly is 10 miles south with 2 motels and New Meadows is about 15 miles west with 2 motels.
By the end of February there should be enough snow to give all levels a challenge and see some great country. The weather on any given day would be the only unknown, I would think.
There are 3 major parking areas to start from. Different riding levels could meet at different parks or just meet at one and still accommodate all levels.
I've got to go finish fixing my Jeep so I can get my sled in the shop. Had 22 degrees this morning. Winter is on it's way.

Thanks TreeWell! Great info. If you ever find yourself without someone to ride with in the mean time feel free to send a pm! :-)

A colorado forum ride has been put together every year for several years now. A different person always seems to take the lead and the location changes from year to year.

The number one thing to do is book it...someone take the reigns...pick the date and location and run with it. You will never be able to accomodate everyones schedule... but once the date is set, people will adjust theirs.

Have a great ride!

I agree with treewelldweller that we need to avoid the winter carnival for the ride, for the parking lots are even fuller than normal. I would be down for a group ride, I rode there almost every weekend last season and quite a few weekends the year prior. I could definitely show some of the intermediate/advanced riders around. Just let me know of a specific date, I will be down there almost every weekend.

Maybe we could show each other around some time! :-)

So, have we picked a date yet??? There's rumor of possible snow in the upper elevations by next week. Everyone should be thinking of a date. With what the forecasters are predicting we should have plenty of the white stuff by the end of February if not before. Once we get a date we can start putting other things together. Maybe help with posting some of the better places to stay in the area. Everyone that has ever stayed overnight could share their experiences so that folks could get some ideas. McCall's rv resort has changed hands and could be open this winter. I could do some checking. But it would be nice to have a date in mind.
Fridays and Saturdays are my sledding days, too!!!! (or any sunny day after a good dumping, you know what I mean) :)

soon i will have a date

as soon as i return from elk hunting i will post a date....and i will get with Treewelldweller on the date so we pick just the right time to hit some pow!!!!:D

I KNOW ME AND A LARGE GROUP FROM E IDAHO WOULD BE IN AND WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME NEW TERRRAIN. I LIKE THE IDEA OF AN ADVANCED BACK COUNTRY TRIP. ALSO MAYBE NEXT YEAR WE CAN GET EVERYONE TOGETHER FOR A EAST IDAHO TRIP WHERE WE STAY AWAY FROM IP AND SEE SOME UNTOUCHED POW.

I would be in for a back country trip in the eastern part of the state. Only heard of Island Park and all the people that ride it. Sounded crowded, but I have never been there. Let's keep this in mind for next year, or whenever.
I like the quote "IF YOUR GOING TO FAIL DON'T FORGET TO BAIL!!!!!" Just remember, Bailing is not Failing, it's just a detour!!!!!

THAT IS CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!:face-icon-small-hap

We could do lots of places in E.I. I think the main reason that the group rides usually happen in I.P. is because of the availability of lodging and the great variety of riding. Copper Basin/Arco/Mackay is a great area when they get the snow, but it's really not a great place for riders who aren't into the backcountry style, and know what they're doing. Preston is great, they have a decent trail system, but I've rarely been on it, again it's another great backcountry ride. I'm curious about some of the riding in the mountains to the south of Burley. I know there's riding over there, just never been to it.
