Ice crust is back!!!!!

So I went up riding wolf creek yesterday and it was freaking freezing rain again. So now we have another layer of ice on top of all the awesome snow that was there saturday. It was only about 1/8th of an inch thick so not as thick as the one underneath all the snow but its another layer of ice. Hopefully the sun will melt the ice layer this week before it snows again. Just remember this everyone for the next few times it storms and to really watch the avy danger again.

ask Chief about this. Saturday we had the shovel out. 3 feet of fluff. then a layer of ice solid enough to support a sled or man, then sugar a foot deep under it. Now ice on top of it all? the base is what we will live with this year. or die with. be careful, please. NO hills!

I ran into it coming out of lake creek yesterday. Lower elevations near the parking lot were free of crust, but once i got out a ways it was a very very thin layer on top. Good thing Im not into climbing lol.

A new layer of ice!! Wow - this year has been hard to deal with when it comes to the steep and deep.

Very dangerous and just when you think thingss are getting safer a new problem arises.

Things were NOT getting safer. One would think so but.... This is not a time cured problem. There is a layer of trapped sugar, garbage snow, sealed by the first big rain event, that is lurking and may lurk all winter. PLEASE read the full avy reports. Most unstable year in memory. And it will stay that way for maybe another 3 months. caution please. any thing less than the go ahead from Utah Avy Forecasters and I'm riding trail and meadows.
