ice build up on driveshaft on 08 dragon

Have read about problems with ice and snow building up on driveshaft and in between drivers but never had it happen to my sled until this last weekend. I think i chisseled ice out 5-6 times on sunday. so my question is can i just cut out the center driver and leave the outer 2 stock or do i need to upgrade to something better. I was also thinking about coating the driveshaft with vegetable oil or something similar to keep snow from sticking. thanks

Have this happen to my 09 RMK 800 quite a few times, talked to the mechanic over at Kurts Polaris in Seeley lake while we were there on a trip, he said it only happens in a certain kind of snow and if you back up it increases the problem because it packs snow up into it, as soon as you feel it start to happen flip the sled on its side and pin it a few times to get it to kick out the ice. Also he said he new a guy who took his drivers out and had them powder coated to solve the problem. Good Luck

Yes, you can just cut out the center driver with a sawzall. It doesn't do anything anyways unless your track is about to ratchet, which is prevented by keeping your track tightened as per the owners manual. The original IQ RAW sleds didn't have this center driver and they work fine. NEVER heard of anyone adding one either.

i have only had it happen 1 day when the snow was wet and deep but it was so bad the ice was taller than the drivers, perfectly round ice wheels. would like to cut out the center driver as long as it dont cause ratcheting probs.
