It has gotten to the point of where I feel that enough is enough. Yes, the BRC is very helpful, and so is SAWS, but I think that now is the time that we start creating grass roots organizations to help us protect our riding areas. I live in Sheridan, Wyoming, where the headquarters of the Wyoming Wilderness Association is www.wildwyo.org. Our voices are not being heard. I think that it is time that I start something to combat their initiatives. Can anyone help me get non-profit status for the State of Wyoming? If anyone else in Wyoming is interested in joining me, please speak up, and let me know. Also, I encourage everyone out there to get involved, and create more grass roots organizations to protect our riding areas. I feel like it is a one sided story out there, and the public is rather uninformed about snowmobiles.

I am focusing on Wyoming

Please help me!

I don't see activism happening in my area with the snowmobile club. Not one press release, not one interview in the news paper. I am looking to protect riding areas through activism, public awareness, etc..

Just an FYI, but you could also become a local SAWS National Forest Watchdog or a local SAWS Rep.

SAWS is only able to be active in areas where we have active SAWS members. No local volunteers = no local SAWS activity to help protect local riding areas.

SAWS is ran by just a few volunteer snowmobilers that also have full time jobs. Most states that we try and protect the riding areas in we have zero volunteers and most of these states we have less than 200 members. Since SAWS is free to join, I don't understand why all snowmobilers that care about their riding areas aren't members.

Check out the map below for our membership numbers.

Here is a list that shows the number of active SAWS reps per state in the western United States:

WA = 1
OR = 2
CA = 0
NV = 0
ID = 2
CO = 0
UT = 0
WY = 0
MT = 1

Why try to reinvent the wheel?

I agree - if you see a gap in the available resources, why not build on what is already available and offer to fill those gaps? The old "power in numbers" comes to mind here - let's focus our energies as a first try rather than dividing them....

Agree on the working with SAWS. They are trying.
Sad thing right now is with this new administration, it is going to get really bad!!
