I know all engines are different but WTF

Seems to be a common occurence with sled aftermarket parts companies.
You call them asking normal questions to get some help to get your sled running like they claim, and they get all butthurt and short with you on the phone.
My favourite is when you calmly and nicely mention your background so they know you both speak the same high performance language, they take it that you are challenging them.......and they get rude and hang up. Too funny.
What is up with that?

Sorry for your situation I hope you get it figured out.

250 mains were installed and its actually acting like a sled. Still slighty rough but conditions were not optimal. Only had grass in my yard to run on but it was just 41 degrees. Hoping to go find some snow to test on later this week.

What is the compression?

As an engine is just an air pump with a fuel system and an ignition system. From the hip, after reading what you have looked at, has me thinking it is not breathing right. Either port height issues, piston installed backwards partially blocking / restricting ports, gasket blockage, cylinder not matched to the case, wrong pipes or internal blockage (rodent nest or something). If you have to go that lean you are most likely not getting air flow and because fuel is Horsepower you have the HP equivalent of a old school 500 twin. I would dig into it or get your money back. Sorry you also had to learn the hard way that Brad does not live up to his reputation. Good luck and let us know how it shakes out.

My ubr 970 in my iqr with bored tm40 carbs, twins and pods ran 270ish mains..

Can you get your egts hot, like 1100*+?

Are you running a airbox?

I'd ditch the lectrons.

I haven'd had time to work on it this week so have not checked compression(pulls like its got a LOT) or squish. Watch for results soon!

I am not currently running the airbox. I have an outerwears prefilter secured over the carbs for tuning purposes. Will install airbox when it feels close and I don't have to remove carbs every twenty minutes.

EGT's have not hit 1100F yet. Was hoping to hit that when I can put it on a good length pull, my yard just isn't quite enough.

Why ditch the Lectrons? I mean I am already fishing with 'em but so far the engine seems to like 'em better. Just wanted to go back to a carb I knew better as they were giving me a rich burn on top and midrange performance was poor. I was advised that the next stage leaner was "unheard of" by Dennis Packard. Dick Erlandson had been advising me to ditch 'em from the beginning before it ever ran. Now I'm back to the stock Mikuni rack.

The one thing I don't know to much about is that IQr ignition and what it does to the equation? Maybe someone else knows them?

If you were real hot on your egt's it could be not enough and danger of burndown or to much and burning in the pipe, but you arenot getting high temps at all? = no airflow, no need for fuel and sadly, no power.

2nd what was said on pulse signal strength. A bigger carb flowing as much or more air than a smaller carb, could get away with same or smaller jet/needle because of weaker signal. Strong pulse signal = good engine.

I've run Lectrons on my price big-bore with great results. Responds well to adjustments and was easy to tune, BUT I had great advise from the motorbuilder who tuned my engine and told me where to start and what I'd likely need.

Best of luck.

Haven't seen Dick in years. He is very knowledgable. Tell him hello from Tony.
Have you tried a different set of pipes? Is the EGT sensor working?
If you don't have the float bowl vented to the air filter/air box it will run rich. Without it vented properly, at speed it will increase float bowl pressure and a rich condition.

Where are your egt probes in your pipes?

If you had brad build the sled why didn't you have him help you tune it when you picked it up? When I bought my 910 we spent an afternoon up above his shop tuning?

I have had nothing but good conversations with Brad and if I have every had a problem or concern with my sled he has been very helpful.

There has to be something else going on. I have not dealt with a carbed 910 but I know I had to add fuel on my vipec and then add even more fuel when I put the twins on?

What are you running for clutching?
Why did you decide to do carbs and not efi?

WOW is all I have to say. I have pretty much divorced my self from this forum for this exact reason.

There are two sides to every story Jason. Its amazing to me how you have left out the details to the whole S/W community that knows everything about everything, and why PAR is avoiding you.

Here is the deal Guy shows up to my shop to have his engine done. Motor was sent in ahead of time to have prepped prior to install. Deal was he would show up Monday morning to have motor installed ,take the sled to cpi and have a set of custom pipes built, and then bring the sled back to PAR for completion. Sled was taken to CPI and pipes were completed. PAR keeps about half the parts to sled as this kid looks like hes living out of his truck! Before he left 2/3 of the bill was paid a balance was left to pay. Well after going to cpi and god knows where else he shows up and is broke and cant pay the rest of the bill. Deal was he was going to Cpi to get pipes made bring it back and yes we were goiing to finish the sled and tune the sled. But Jason has other plans he doesnt have any money and all his credit cards are tapped! (No big surprise). So I turn my back for 5 minutes to go take a **** and he and his buddy then proceed to go into my shop and take all the parts of his and load up the sled and take off! I give this dip **** the benifit of dought that he went to town to eat or something but after 1 hour never returned. So I then call him numerous times and no answer. I then leave him a message and tell him that he has 45 minutes to call me or return to the shop with full payment or Im calling the cops. He then calls me within 5 minutes, and first thing out of his mouth is dont call the cops. Why Jason do you have warrants for your arrest? So after another hour he calls someone else to get a card number and supplies me with a card number to pay the balance off. Then I told him to come back and I would still help him finish the sled and tune it. Then he says I dont have enought money to pay for gas to get home and I am already one hour north and I am going to West Yellowstone to ride this. LOL This is where things will get interesting. This kid doesnt know his head from his *** on anything but know my engines of pos. LOL this is why I love S/W

One month later he then calls me on the phone at the shop and proceeds to tell me his motor is a pos and wont run. At this point I am laughting so hard it not even funny. Karma, my friend. He then tells me that I would be the last person on the face of this planet to tune his engine. OK then good enough don't call me back and I hung up!!

So Know hes here to get advise for the best people in the world who know everything about everything cause that's all hes got.

Oh the best for last!! He then sends me several text messages that he thinks are going to my cell phone, and sends me a text message on Easter Sunday that say F--K Y-U!!!!!!

Jason In short, this will be the only post I put on here as I have not logged on here since JAN 25 and plan to keep it that way. Good luck in your venture your going to need it!! Just remember Karma, and your going to getting it.

And now we know the other side of the story, you sound like a real winner!

I thought it kind of weird that brad wouldn't help you. But I guess we know why now.

Bahahahahahahahaha. He stole from your shop, you were nice enough not to call the cops, he pays you the balance and you still volunteer to help him out to get it running! Now that's above and beyond.
He had the option of your help but went to Yellowstone(attempting to flee with stolen parts) instead of tuning his sled. What a dummy!!!!!!
Now he can't get his sled to run. Too funny.
Thanks for your version of the story. Not political, no spinning it with words, just the way it happened.
Keep up the good work.
PS-I wonder if he stayed in his truck at Yellowstone?

As said there's always 2 sides of a story... The truth usually lies somewhere in between.

Your a hell of a nice guy. If someone stole from me while I was taking a crap I'd of been calling the cops with my pants still around my ankles.

Thanks Brad.
Reminds me of the old Paul Harvey stories.

Yes, I did have troubles with my debit card as my bank has a 3 day limit attached to all of their accounts but this isn't exactly how things played out. First off, we did not pack out the parts behind his back. In fact he helped us pack em to my trailer where I started installing them with his help. I needed a tee for the fuel hose and brad wanted to block off the exhaust valve ports SO he sent me to the parts store to get these items. We had to go to 2 of them to find the right parts. I came out to the pickup where I had left my phone and had messages that brad was calling the cops on me. I called him back explaining that we were at the parts store that he sent us to, he copped an attitude with me, making threats and just being an all around prick. At this point I was pissed that he can trust me for days and hundreds of miles but not for an hour when I'm couple blocks away??? I told him that I would not be returning to his shop with an attitude like that. I was in the process of activating a card to pay for the remaining $1,495 since we first stepped back into his shop and my bank had a hold on my debit card. Money was not the issue, just needed the electronic end of things to work as I had given him all the cash I had with me. I got off the phone with him and talked to my credit card companies and bank to figure out the quickest way to pay him off. After my bank made an attempt to lift the hold on my account, I had a card company call me back with my current information and paid my bill off. I am not going to deal with anyone that treats there customers with threats and bad attitudes. Also, I had originally planned to buy a used engine and put Lectron carbs on it, called and ordered them, later that day the deal went sour on the used engine and I decided to go new, calling him back to cancel the carbs and order an engine. He said they couldn't be cancelled or returned and forced me into buying them. These carbs and all the crap he got to hook them up was $975 in itself with the incorrect cables and filters. I now have them posted for sale and will likely take a loss on them. Talk about customer service!

I would like to point out a couple problems with the tuning unability of this guy. We asked if he had tightened the primary clutch more than once cuz my buddy was certain he didn't - "oh yeah" he says, "its tight and I torqued it" Bolt wasn't even finger tight. "I recommend you remove your reed stuffers" he says. "why?" "they only restrict air" he replies and installs them without stuffers - ya umm brad, they kinda hold the reeds in place so that they function properly. I asked him what timing position to run the ignition in "i don't know," he replies "probably where it was for your last motor" I don't run motors, I run internal combustion engines brad and that isn't the same position as the engine before that. Should we check the squish and compression, brad replies "why, there's nothing we can do to change it". Why aren't your cylinder heads indexed to the head so they can't turn, he replies "they won't when the head bolts are tightened" sounds like other people have had this problem, can't wait til I do! As he istalls the head I watch him put ptfe on some head bolts "the logo is laser etched into the head under some of these bolts, so you'll have to use sealer on them if you ever remove them" - wow, that's intelligent. I could go on and on with more and more crap I found wrong with his installation and designs but I will stop before I get any madder.

kcjepperson - according to brad, he was excited to tune and install my engine because he had supposebly NEVER had anyone come to his shop to do this..... odd? Another reason why I didn't want him tuning what I had just spent thousands on. Perhaps I bought before you did? And with his own turbo 1100 sitting right there that he couldn't figure out and make run? Shoulda known to walk away right then and there when I saw that one.

Back to MY topic of this engine and tuning it - I have installed smaller jets in the Mikuni's and now run a 230 main jet. Finally pulls RPM and makes power. Far from the 190+HP brad wants to claim. My 800 Bikeman would have put this 910 over-par to shame. I think it runs about like a stock 600 with fat jetting. It will be going on a dyno later this fall and getting sent to another engine buillder for inspection as to why this engine runs with so little fuel.

I would love to sell this engine/setup as I will not buy anything from this "motor" builder

Ok... BOTH sides have spoken their peace.

I'm closing this in hopes of preventing a bickering thread.

Good luck to all this season.
