I hope you all read this thread - $ to use Forum

Kinda depends on what is asked but I think that the advertisers should foot the bill

NO!!! Mainly because all of the money they have spent and want us to flip the bill for has done little (if not made it worse) to improve the forum....

I subscribe to both of there mags and I would not pay to post and chat on here.

I also think the advertisers should help pay for the forum!

I added my thoughts to the post and will copy them here.....
If you charge, they will leave.

Advertising dollars from the forums should go directly back to the forums.
Using those funds from the profitable area of business to support the sinking part of business (magazine prints) is like keeping the life support going. In the end you just die a slow miserable death.

Separate out the digital forums and printable media into two entities. Funded by their own advertising dollars...

Who ever suggested getting into bed with backcountry.com and other sites needs to understand those companies make large donations to groups that shut down our riding areas. Its a complete shame, but it is what it is. Sleeping with the enemy is never a good thing... (unless she is smokin hot ;))

I am with Phatty on this one. These really should be 2 seperate entities. Magazine dollars should pay for magazine. If it can't stand on its own, then obviously there is not enough interest in it. SO......either up the content and quality such that interest increases or scrap it.
I also work in the online advertising community and know the types of funds that are both paid and generated through this medium. There should be more than enough money from paid advertisements whether on a flat rate basis or a CPA/CPS. If they are charging a flat rate, don't know how much that is, but they could increase those revenues by switching to a CPS model.
I love the forum and the friends and knowledge that is gained from forums. But if they are going to charge I would be out and turn to other methods, forums, texting, to stay in touch. I am also a frequent user of DOOtalk and think they have an extremely good thing going. It is a volunteer based paid system. You get access to the forum, posting, pics, pm's for free. PM's and storage space are limited but not to a point where it is a burden or makes you feel like you have to pay to have a good experience. If you want to sign up and become a member of the DOOcrew then you pay $25 for the year and you get a t-shirt, stickers, logo under your name stating you joined the doocrew. Increased storage limits. If you want to pay more then you can go up 2 or 3 more tiers. Also sponsors get links under their name showing they are a paid sponsor as well as a portal for sponsors that people can go through to shop. It has been a very successful model for them and spend a little time over there and I think you could learn a thing or two. Posting quality is also very good and very few pissing matches. At least in the mountain forums.

My .06-

I already dont go anywhere but the Utah section. We could easily setup a new utah section on another free site. Ill never pay a dime or even donate one.

I agree with Freak......only use the Utah section. Check wyoming once in a while. We already have our own utah riders section over on intermountainriders.com

We could take over the snowmobiling section there should they decided to charge.

You got it. I'm a non using member on Intermountainriders. Would be too easy to blast over there and continue where we left off.

I would rather send money to BRC and SAWS and feel like it's serving a much greater purpose.

I'm a UT section kinda guy. Pretty much all I use.

You guys need to post more on intermountainriders.com. It's just UT guys over there also. They put together some really good rides this summer at the dunes, and a few camping trips to the Knolls.

I'm with everybody else, I won't be paying anything to play on the forums. There's too many free ones out there right now.

I posted in the Poll thread.

I'd pay to use the swapmeet when I want to sell something. I also think the retailers that use the swapmeet instead of buying a banner or sidebar ad should pay.

To read and post I would not pay. But a couple of bucks to sell my spare parts and crap to the right target would be worth it.

For 3 or 4 years I received SnoWest Magazine for free. I have been a subscriber for 4 or 5 years now with the theory that it helped out the SnoWest Forums. With that said, I will not pay to specifically use the forums. In fact I would most likely let my subscription lapse if I had to pay for the website.

Gimme the word and I can have a forum set up in no time! All I need is peeps to post and bring it more peeps. The more traffic we can git, the more advertisers we can git to pay for the site and its upgrades. If snowest wants to commit suicide by making people pay, aint nothing we can do to stop it. We just move on and find a replacement. Its not that hard. I made a forum for quads this summer and can make one for snowmobiles just as easy. Just gimme the word and I'm on it.

Here is my 2 cents I posted over there.

I know a few sites that allow people to donate and change the color of their name or something like that letting everone know who donated. With alot of members and even if 1/10 of them donate $10 it is a start. You won't lose any members, and won't scare new members away.

Maybe offer some extras to donating members but I wouldn't take anything away from the general public. It would seem like visiting a **** site then.

I know the economy is rough right now, but I personaly have shoveled enough of my income over the last 3 years to SnoWest sponsors it could have run this site for a year.

I don't feel the need to pay for internet forums to say the least.

So you are saying that you would pay $10 to see Graveler naked?:eek:

I'll keep my $10

Seriously, let the site advertisors pay to keep the site running. It is the magazine advertisors that keep the magazine running. We see more of their ads than anything else anyways.
