Hi there!
I have a choice of Ski-Doo Summit Highmark 162 (1000 CC engine, 162 track) and Polaris RMK 600 H.O. (144 track) both are 2006, same mileage, and same price 3.5K. i am preparing for my 2nd sledding season, and do not know what to choose!
Please help!!!!
Do you ditch bang or go to the mountains? The 1000's are a unique beast but when sorted out climb well. They take a bit of man handling to boondock. The 600 144 I wouldn't take off the prairies. Unless you are 220+lbs add $500 to your budget and find a rev 800 in good shape with a fresh motor.
Yeah, 162 is quite a bit too much I never go to mountains, so deep snow and ditch banging, sometimes trails (with wife). and yes, I am tall, with 245 Lbs on me
Sleds in Canada are generally more expensive, so 3.5K for 2006 600 H.O. is a good deal. However, i am very open to pickup some good sled from US.
thank you gents (ladies?) for advise.
So, 800, eeh? i`ll be looking
P.S. looked at this 600 H.O. yesterday - this sled was used hard, and never been taken care of. As well, it loses compression from 120 to 110 after warming up.
Personally I would look for a IQ RAW RMK 700 2007 or newer. The RAW is a more refined and lighter version of the IQ chassis and a lot of fun to ride. A 700/155 will be plenty capable of deep snow as well as not having to worry about cooling ability of harder snow or trails. An Arctic Cat M7 is also a great sled, but lacks reverse. M7s can be picked up pretty cheap and are great bang for the buck. I would avoid anything bigger than an 800 in your situation, it's just way more sled than you need and will take the fun out of it unless you just want to climb in the insanely steep/deep stuff.
