Your exactly right. The Skinz guards work very well, the other ones don't do anything to keep your hands warm. And yes, they will break.Scott,
Last year I added the stock, Polaris plastic hand guards to mine when I picked it up and they broke at the first moderate contact with some thumb-thick willows. I wanted them for wind deflection mostly as I often ride at -20, but I expected them to far more durable then they were.
A friend has the Skinz soft guards that velcro on/off when needed. Kind of a half gauntlet. Perfect for where/how I ride. I'm picking up a pair.
