I-5 bridge collapse

maybe we should have federal money fix our infrastructure instead of other countries.

EASY EASY..... The federal government is toooo busy trying to win a winless war that has taken at least 1 trillion dollars away from our country....

I was driving into Seattle from the East side last night around 7:30 and this was ALL over the radio station. According to them, Washington had a rating of a C- for their bridge infrastructure's throughout the state, saying that a lot of the bridges that are still currently in use, were not designed to accept the travel load that occurs on a daily use (70,000 people crossed this bridge a day). Anyways pretty crazy stuff! Im sure it spoiled a few peoples Memorial day plans! DOT said 3 months to get it back up and running. I am slightly skeptical about that number.

uummm....... it help's if a tractor/trailer doesn't aid in it's demise, although they should be built to withstand a hit. It was built in 1965. :face-icon-small-con

Those damn Krazy Canadians can run snow machines but there driving skills with oversized loads are now really in question. Maybe its their first attempt at taking us over.... LMFAO

The bridge was inspected 2 times last year and passed. I'd like to see a simulation of where exactly the impact occurred and the resulting demise immediately after impact.

I would assume this is a main artery bridge being it is the I-5.

Here in Los Angeles a section of I-10 collapsed and they paid a contractor to rebuild it in less than a month.

Guess that is because of # of users or who the users are?

I'm surprised the headline doesn't read ....

Bridge collapses because of over use by towing recreational off road vehicles while transporting dangerous deadly toxic carcigenic tree choking fossil fuels and supernatural enhanced synthetic lubricants

Now that's a conspiracy , restricting article for ya ! :gossip:

The bridge was actually built in 1955 not 65. 71000 cars a day have to find a new route! Crazy!

Bridge listed as 'functionally obsolete'

The bridge is not considered structurally deficient but is listed as being "functionally obsolete" - a category meaning that their design is outdated, such as having narrow shoulders or low clearance underneath, according to a database compiled by the Federal Highway Administration.

The bridge was built in 1955 and has a sufficiency rating of 57.4 out of 100, according to federal records. That is well below the statewide average rating of 80, according to an Associated Press analysis of federal data, but 759 bridges in the state have a lower sufficiency score.

Main thing is that everybody is going to be ok.
I drive that bridge every day and it can be a real bottle neck at peak times. The area has grown a lot since 1955 and with 71,000 plus cars/trucks crossing it every day, I would really like to see them replace it with larger bridge that has 3 lanes each direction to handle the traffic load.
There are a lot of people that get on at College Way, cross the bridge, then get off at George Hopper Rd. and visa-versa. A 3rd lane each direction would make a huge improvement for that traffic. Of course it needs to be open or taller as well, so over-sized loads don't have to drive down the center of both lanes to clear the overhead supports.

Whats funny to me is that everyone believes what the government and media tells you. They say it was inspected and that 71K vehicles pass over on a daily basis.

The real story:::::

The oil refinery is up in Anacortas and the mass amount of oil/fuel uses is down here in snohomish and king county. Do you not see the writing on the wall. Gas prices are going to skyrocket due to "transportation cost" Then they will slap another transportation tax on vehicles>>>>>Wait they will make the next bridge a toll bridge so they can piss all the money away like they did with the 520 gas tax and not the toll. The bridge collapse was a planned attack by our ooohh so trusting government that everyone believes in. Just my 2 cents....Lets see how it all turns out

So then the price of fuel north of the bridge should DROP? My B'ham brothers should be swimming in diesel and premium!
