Huts / Yurts

Have been searching all over the net for some huts / yurts that have good access for sleds. It seems that most discourage the use including the 10th mountain divisoin, but don't disallow it. Wanted to see if anyone had any experiences or locations they care to share or PM me with? Or at least point me in the right direction?

If I book one, I don't want to be the only one there with a sled and have the XC skiers pissed becuase they spend all day hauling to get there.

Also, Im looking to do a lot of sled skiing so, a yurt / hut with access to some good lines would be sweet.

Thanks for the help:)

Most that I've heard of don't allow sledding to the door, but many let you get near. Not sure I'd want to leave my sled alone in "enemy territory" though. Just bring a gallon of schnapps, twig pigs can never haul that kind of "extra weight", then they'll get over their "elitist principles". You might check Colorado State Forest over by Cameron pass/Gould. They are somewhat friendly to sleds, though you still have to park a ways from the Yurts and cabins.

I've stayed at the Ben Eiseman hut. It was fun. You cannot go all the way to the door, but you can get pretty close.

The sledding directly around the hut is not great, but the Piney Ranch area is very close. When I went I was in a group that had sledders and skiers. The other people we were sharing the huts with were all skiers, but a cool group. We offered to haul out all the un-burnable trash.

Other huts in the 10th Mountain:

I have not been but I think the following would be worth considering on a sled:

Betty Bear/Skinner, Fowler/Hilliard, Jackal, Janets Cabin.
The last three are in the Vail Pass area, Shrine Mtn Inn would work but it is a VERY popular skier hut, the others are better.

A group I know when to the Betty Bear and Skinner huts. They used a sled for a lot of it but most were skiing. I've been to them in the summer.

Thanks for the tips. San Juans might work, I just have to make a long haul from denver. Any other riders care to chime in?

Finding it difficult to get any weekends, because most are already booked as I expected. I know there are some other secret yurts someone knows about. Anyone know of anyone buying an acre to put a yurt on that is near a trail system? Im just trying to maximize my winter riding this year.
