Hurricane Turbo vs Others - Feedback?

Just looking to see if anyone has any direct experience with the Hurricane turbo for the Viper? Contemplating going that route instead of the dealer installed MPI. Looking at the 190hp set up. Any input appreciated. Will be riding more in the flats at around 2200 ft but will be in the hills a couple of times a year around the 6-8000 ft range, latter in the season - too old to be fighting early in the year anymore! lol

Thanks BF. Is that it for feedback? I'm pretty sure some were on the snow last winter in the mountains. E&S is installing them this year but will do MPI also. And I know E&S has installed lot of turbo's!

What's wrong with the MPI kit?

no prob just passing what i know along, never have seen a hurican kit in the mtns but there may be a few.e&s seems like they do there homework, so i guess if they are using them they must have some time on them.i just like to support local builders if i can & boost -it makes a nice kit.

If you're gonna be riding different elevations and types of riding having a kit with 2 octane levels on a switch would seem handy unless you are never gonna want more than 190. Evo's kit keeps stock compression as well but if you aren't using the 100 octane tune you would be getting more than you are gonna use.

Not familiar with Hurricane in a mountain kit so not sure what controller they are using. I know Darren pretty well and if he is doing them I have to believe they are decent.

Thanks all. btw haven't heard anything negative about MPI but just asking about the alternatives. Sort of like dating a twin - nothing wrong with the one you're dating but you always wonder what her sister's like!:face-icon-small-hap

The only downside I've seen to the Hurricane kit, is it doesn't come with a cold air intake snorkel and pulls under hood air. That setup is probably fine for a trail sled moving fast and has alot of air passing through the screens.

I have had interaction with Dave(hurricane performance) and he is super knowledgeable on yamaha performance. I have no experience with his kit but he does know his stuff. That being said as far as mountain riding I think even he would tell you the kit has no time on it in the mountains and was designed for trail riding.

Apparently, the fuel controller requires a PC to change the fuel mapping.
