how will 19/45 gearing work on a 144

i just picked up an 06 summit x 144. stock gearing is 21/45. im gonna try 19/45, im heading to cooke city on wednesday. i enjoy technical riding more than all out hillclimbing. am i gonna trench a lot? ive seen alot of people recommend 19/45 or even lower but thats on 151 and 159's nothing about 144's. anybody have advise for the 144 gearing.
btw, im installing a big john clutch kit too.

My 04 X 144x16x2 came stock with 19/45 and 10 tooth drivers, when I switched to a 151x16x2.25 off an 06 X and 9 tooth drivers I was told to use 21/45 and it works great. I may try the 19 thou.

I need a 19 tooth sprocket

If either of you decide against the 19tooth swap, I would be interested in grabbing one from you.

To answer your question, gearing down for the 151, 154, helps with improved torque, decreased belt temps, better off the line (so to speak), you will lose I think it's, 2-3mph top end.

thanks guys. im gonna try it. i keep forgetting that my 144x16 has a similar footprint as a 151x15 so i should have plenty of traction not to trench. hopefully it will hold rpms longer on those big climbs and keep the belt cooler when messing around in the trees.

I run the same gearing on my 700 151 rev(its a peiced together sled) and it works awsome, belt life is great, pulls out of the hole a LOT harder and seems to keep the track spinning a LOT better on pulls. doesnt trench. this sled has no real power mods or anything, and this has to be one of the better upgrades I did to it. uses the power of the little motor a LOT better. might lose a little top end, but it still a LOT of fun on the trail, and seeing as I dont sled for the trails, who cares.

I have (2) 07 800r's, a 16x144 and 16x151. stock drivers on both 9 tooth I believe.

on the 144" I have tried the stock 21T, a 19T and a 20T. I finally settled on the 20T for track speed. The 19T was definitely torquey but would trench and top out too quick for my liking. I would suggest trying the 20T.

For the 151 I would recommend the 19T.

Depends on the drivers you have... if 9 tooth, good luck unless you mainly ride Mt. Everest (Vailguy got it right); 21/45 works perfect for 4-8,000 feet. 20/45 above that. Subtract a top tooth for 10 tooth drivers.

Have FUN!

My sled was a 144 and it came with 19/45 gearing stock with 10 tooth drivers.
