how well do standard roller chains work?

How well does a standard non oring roller chain hold up on a timbersled? My kit was used and came with a 16 tooth rear sprocket. the standard chain hits the track at proper tension and removing one link doesn't even come close to being able to put the two halves together. I can't believe the kit is designed without a full chain link of tension adjustment.
So I need to put on an offset link. the only local 1/2 links are for standard chains, non for orang chains.

Will a standard chain hold up? its a cheap princess auto #50 chain. I have no other options until I order a oring chain 1/2 link.

I've never run standard roller chain on any of my bikes in the summer, but I'd think if anything that snow would be the best environment for them compared to anything else. No dirt to get in there. I also think its pretty unbelievable that they didn't design it with enough adjustment to get at least one link in there... Seems pretty bogus.

When I ran a standard, non o-ring chain with a half-link, the chain stretched like crazy. I was moving the adjuster quite a bit every ride and the chain was rubbing the track in no time. I ended up going back to the o-ring chain while still running the non o-ring half-link. It held up for several rides, but I didn't really trust it. It didn't stretch nearly as much, though.

I have a standard 520 chain with a half link. I will go for my first ride next Tuesday and report back. I'm thinking once the chain stretches I might pull the half link and see if it is a good length then.

You have to give those chains a lot of credit , who would think that it can handle turning over a foot print of a track compared to the little contact patch of a tire . Simple questions , Why do you think the snowmobiles use hyvo chains ?

Why would you even waste your time with the distributor when you could build several for the price of one ?

Why waste your money on an O-ring chain that is so short lived in this application ?

It does not make any sense .
