How to spend $15,000 on Yamaha boosted sled?

That's what I have to spend on a boosted Yamaha build. Apex or Nytro?

Apex - can get a low mileage one for $6K
1. do I need to change the track? (have to change drivers regardless)
2. is the stock suspension OK for handling this HP? - I like sidehilling, carving, boondocking, climbing (nothing real steep), very little jumping
3. do I need to lightweight it at the same time as adding boost?

Nytro - can get an '08 holdover for $8500
1. would change the track to 162" (and drivers)
2. is the stock suspension OK for handling this HP? - see riding style above
3. do I need to lightweight it at the same time as adding boost?

Thanks for all replies.

"buy a used one already done up, your 15grand will go alot further. Check the swapmeet."

"it's all gonna depend how much you get the turbo kit for. Are you doing the install? That will dictate how much $$ is left over."

I should have qualified the info that was first posted. I want an Impulse turbo and a low, low mileage or no mileage sled. Have not found a low mileage Impulse Nytro or Apex. I will have it professionally installed here in Utah.

With a Apex you can get away with using the stock suspension if your not into climibing steep nasty stuff. All you really need to do if anything is flip the track around and tune the suspension. If your not into climbing anything to crazy you'll be just fine. Then Nytro on the other hand, you have to do at least a 162" track and extensions, if not a whole new skid altogether or you will be looking at the sky more then the snow your riding on.

My understanding is that a turbo Nytro needs a different skid, so, at minimum, besides the turbo, drivers and 162" track/tunnel extension, you should do a skid with lightweight brackets. I also understand that the steering relocation kit is well worth the coin and possibly Gen II skis.

I would think that if doing the Apex, I would lightweight the front as much as possible and just flip the track.

I understand the rationale behind the "buy a used one". I was fully intending to go that route. After spending quite a bit of time and gas money looking at boosted yamaha's, I have yet to find one that would be acceptable. They either need some additional upgrades or have some issues with performance, parts, etc. To take someone's word on a sled that I cannot see personnally with that kind of money involved makes me a little hesitant, besides shipping, etc., so just decided to do my own build locally, plus I am really sold on the Impulse kit and they are right here in Utah. Thanks for the advice, info, etc. Would still like more imput on the Apex vs Nytro instead of buying used.

I guess that there are a couple of things to consider. The Apex is a 4 year old platform with the possibility of being redesigned from the factory with the 2010 model. Who knows. You might want to wait and see what Yamaha comes out with. In the meantime, you could find a real good deal on a sled that you can use this season and resale if you decide to get a 2010.

If you are set on getting a 4 stroker this year w/ boost and throwing that much money at it, you should plan on keeping it for awhile to make it worthwhile. I think that you can get a good low mileage Apex and have more money to lightweight it, especially the front end where so much of the weight is (shocks, arms, battery, hood & headlight). The Nytro will be more expensive initially and I think that you could only do turbo, install, drivers and sled for 15K.

Well, it wasn't me - not sure how all this "rep" works anyway. Sorry, your post certainly didn't offend me. As I mentioned earlier, I started down the used path at first.

Lol no problem:) Ya like you say their doesn't seem to be many Impulse turbos on the used market:( But the plus side of building your own is you know exactly what your getting from the start! Good luck:beer;

As for the "rep" its pretty simple, the little scale in the top right corner of the post box, just click it, approve or disapprove, sign your name and comment and that's that;) Too see who has repped you click on the "user cp" button on the top left of the page:) Thanks for the green!
