How to shave some weight off Summit?

How have you made your Summit rev lighter? I know exhaust can and seat are good bang for your buck to shed some weight but Im curious what else people have done.

I have also pulled the foam out of the sled, I want to ride at night so not going to do the headlight delete and don't want to mix fuel so going to keep the oil injection . . . for now.

I do not have an X model, how did the X models shave weight, suspension arms and shocks? Is there a good after market kit for the rev?

Would getting a different track make a big difference.

What is best bag for buck as I wont be able to afford everything I will likely want to do this season.

THanks,

take out all the bogie wheels in the rear skid other than the rear axle , and also install you can make out your original or buy 2 wheel rear axle, just run Ice Scratchers on harder snow to help lube the hyfax`s they also help spray up snow on the cooler to assist with keepin the engine cool in any conditions.

What year is your sled?, 04-05 loose the rear rack with the tail light and leave the light off or install small Led tail light.

just acouple inexpensive mods, I can think of now.

i'm gonna mount an LED mini bar on the top handlebar clamp and stick with the headlite delete. also running K&N Filters and got rid of breather box. Timbersled upper and lower A-arms and spindles, For sure go with 2 wheel rear axle kit and scratchers, and exhaust(also little better performance). I think the only way i can get lighter is to go on a diet-supposed to work well also...lol

you can also have your track ported and get rid of your sway bar depending how much trail riding you do.

Best bang for the buck is free so no foam, no bogies, no rear rack/taillight, next is a can then a rear skid. At that point you can do a boss seat, and some cromoly or titanium suspension arms.

Awesome, thanks for all the info.

Mine is a 2007 (not X). It came with a aftermarket can and Boss seat. How much weight would a boss seat shave off a 2007?

Why does Skidoo put bogie wheels on the sled in the first place? Simply for trail riding stuff?

Do the Timber Sled front susp kits ride better than the stock arms or is it mostly the weight saving your paying for? How about the rear skid, anyone running it? Bug improvement for handling as well?

Thanks again,

Ryan

BR Tech light weight hood, Alternative Impact chromoly A arms, you can get them in narrower than stock (37inch skistance) like the newer XP which are actually 36 but close enough, weight savings is good great product, I had a set of chromoly stock stance ones for a year and sold them to fund my ski`s and seat upgrade 06` Black Summit X seat and Simmons Gen 1 skis. Will get another set in 37inch ones in near future.

Vent the side panels for better engine cooling and helps the belt run cooler also, not alot of weight savings but definetly help when you can get hot air out of the engine compartment.

XP Rear skid if you want to stay more in budget, you can buy chromoly arms for them also, the aftermarket skids are sweet but way expensive. If you have the money for that, I like the Holz and K Mod.

Nice thing about riding these older sleds is you can find parts for a fraction of new. Comb the forums and you will find a good deal on a skid. I love my Holz, my fabrcraft isn't as nice but is still way nicer than stock. Heard northing but good about Timbersled and K mod as well. In my opinion as long as the new skid gets rid of the rear torsion springs you will notice big improvement and weight savings. Steer clear of M10's they are old tech and heavier than stock.

Will an 08 skid loose weight forma 07? I have heard that the 08,09 skids were known for trenching really bad? Will a 2010 skid bolt right up to an 07?

Does the newer XP skids ride smoother or do they just do a better job of staying on top of the snow?

Sorry about all the newb questions, this will be my 2nd season being a sled-adict and Im learning lots from this forum.

As for removing the bogie wheels in the rear skid, you are just referring to the two wheels about midway back on the skid on the bottom right? you cant remove the wheels on the top right?

The XP skids are lighter than the Rev. The 2010+ is a lot better but any will fit if you drill new holes.

There are 4 bogie wheels on the rails two outside up near the drivers and tow inside part way back. Leave the ones mounted to the tunnel alone.

So I have a 151 on my rev, can I use the same track if I find a XP skid from a 154 or do I need the 154 track?

If I put a 2010 154 skid under it then I could likely do the T-motion upgrade as well?

Would you rather have a XP skid on rev with the t-motion kit, or an aftermarket skid like a timbersled?

I dont have enough experience yet modding sleds to feel comfortable drilling my sled to make the skid bolt up, do you think most dealers would be up to the task of installing the skid if I find a 2010 skid?

Really appreciate all the help guys!

Sounds like you should either get a bolt in aftermarket skid, or just leave it alone. Having a dealer put in an xp skid, wouldn't be worth the cost.

Tom,s Snowmobile has a direct bolt on Evolution setup with Fox Flaot shox,s. Project Done!

I did the XP conversion last year, also added the 2010 upgrade and Toms E/A not a job for a beginer, however, there's a company that makes a fox air shock conversion for the Rev rear arm. Allows you you remove the rear torsion springs, cant remember the co. maybe C3 or Carbon parts ?
