How to remove small nicks on secondary clutch?

I had the bumper that supports the exhaust pipe fall off yet again. This time I rode a few hundred yards before realizing it. Fell right down by the secondary clutch. I have some small nicks on the outer edges of the sheaves on the secondary clutch. They are very small, but seem to be pulling the cords out of the belt. What is the best way of smoothing these out? File them down carefully, and sand with some fine sand paper? They are tiny but have sharp burrs, and are only on the extreme outside of the sheve edges. Maybe 6-8 small nicks.

I just did the same thing.

I cleaned the sheaves with 3M wax and grease remover then
I used 1000 grit and wet sanded it. Then used some scotchbrite.

Then washed with a mild soap.
