how to remove front motor mounts?

Had a front mount separate on my 04 800 and was wondering whats the best way to remove them. Is it just threaded into the bulk head? Thanks

Polaris has a special tool to remove them but you can also use a hammer and punch. They are just threaded into the bulkhead.

Maybe mine is an off-breed, but on my '05 700 I actually had to drop the skid plate and remove a plastic pop in plug to get to the nut that held the motor mount in. I thought it threaded down into the bulkhead too, but for some reason, mine actually had a nut.

x2 on the nut. My 04' 800 vertical edge has a nut instead of threads in the bulkhead. I was a little stubborn to remove the skid plate and used a wrench from up top instead, but that was probably more of a pain than it was worth. To spin it I used a hammer and punch, though I had to drill a hole in the lower plate of the mount to use the punch on because the last guy put the mout in upside down (tab'd half of mount up & of course it ripped off).

Tool for the JOB!

Hey Guys..

While working the the shop last night, i made a couple handy tools. One is Pretty simple while the other one is a life saver! Here you go..

First one was how the heck am i going to lift my engine out and or just up.. With only ONE Person... Hmm.. I got it.. So i found a old BR9ES Laying around put it in the Vise and and broke it all apart ... then found large NUT About 1 1/4.. Welded it to the top of the now broken spark plug!! I did this to two of them!!

WOW .. I have a engine lift now!! i put a strap through them and lifted with my engine hoist!!

Second Tool i came across as NEEDING.. Hmm i got the engine lifted up a good 2 1/2 feet.. Trying to replace the front left engine mount... Got the air hammer in there... No Luck,, Got a Huge BFH out no luck.. HMM thinking there has got to be a better Way!!

Yes there is.. MAKE a Socket to go right over the engine Mount!! Bingo!! I am in Biz!!! 20 min later here's what i came up with!!

I put a 1/2 Impact on it.. Motor Mount came right out.. I even tighten the new one in with my new tool!!

So Guys.. Post your Home made TOOLS!!!!

You always have to have the right tool for the job!!

Let me know what u think..

I can give you all the sizes i used! ????

there is a nut on my 03, made a bent wrench and got it under the flange and got the moter mount off. one of the worst "small jobs" you can run into.
Pain in the A**.

I just drilled holes in the bottom of my skid plate on my 03 800 edge, then you do not have to take it off. I see absolutly no reason to worry about special tools, I used a 3/8 drive impact and socket from the bottom. You could use a socket and rachet also, very easy job. I used to remove my engine once a season just to clean the engine compartment and inspect everything. :face-icon-small-win

03 and older bulkheads don't have a plug in the bottom. 04 and newer do. You can cut a hole though the bottom or just bend a wrench like other people said. I've seen alot of these sleds from the the factory with up side down mounts. Not a big deal realy other then the thread length on one side is a little longer and they are a real pain to get out if broken. But this is the reason I would always order an 04 or newer tunnel if I had to replace one.
