How to fly to Cooke City

I look to join a group going to Cooke City next year. They haul their sleds there but i could join them going by air and renting. Looking at the map, difficult for me to figure if it is possible to fly (witch airport) and how to get to Cooke after? I see Bozeman airport, West Yellowstone? How far from there to Cooke and will I have to rent a car too or is a shuttle or a local guy could pick me up (I would pay the bill). Thanks for your help

Look at flying into Billings or Red Lodge and then driving to Cooke City. I think with bozeman you would have to back track and West Yellowstone too far.

Cooke City and to Billings or Red Lodge.
Hope this helps.

Bozeman is the closest regional airport in the winter. You'll have rent and drive in from there, or hitch a ride. Billings is an extra 1.5hr drive.
Bozeman guys, what's it take 3 hours to Cooke?

From Bozeman it takes us about 3 hours give or take depending on the park road and how many hippie/photo-taking/Subaru driving D-bags are parked in the middle of the road holding up traffic for a buffalo. I would say your best bet would be to fly into Billings even though its a little further away it seems flights into Billings are generally cheaper. Bottom line is you'll be driving from either Billings or Bozeman.

Closest commercial airport would be Bozeman, from there you would have to rent a car or find a ride. Billings or Cody would require finding a snowmobile ride from the parking area to town or driving a long way to get over to Gardner. Thats the only way in by car, in the winter. Hwy. 212 is snowmobile trail and the park is closed to travel except for the road from Gardner to Cooke. If you do some asking around on here a few weeks before you go, you may be able to hook a ride with someone.

That's friggen funny but true. What gives them the right to block an entire lane of traffic with 30 friggen cameras on tripods! We almost had a pile up last year when a bunch dead stopped in the middle of the road to look at a coyote. Pretty sure they thought it was a wolf, lmao.

Amen, my god I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that notices how bad some Subaru drivers are. Has anyone noticed that the more stickers and things on their roof the more out of it they seem to be. Back to the normal discussion sorry.

The worst part about it is that they all look at you like your the a$$hole. Its ridiculous. After a few years of going there every other weekend it gets pretty frustrating. We started playin a little trick on them where we'll come to a complete stop and roll down the window and get all serious and excited and exclaim "Hey you guys! you guys! couldn't believe it but back about 5 miles there are 2 wolves over a fresh elk kill! Its amazing you've got to see it!" This tactic usually works pretty good if you and everybody else in the truck can keep a straight face.

They are talking about plowing the road from Pilot to Cooke next year. Parking in Cooke will be a problem.

Haha, my last time through the park I was cussing all the "amateur photographers" blocking traffic all over the place.

I was going on and on when suddenly I saw 4 huge bull elk sitting really close to the road still in velvet, guess what I got out and started taking pictures. :face-icon-small-ton

My wife still laughs at me when I start talking about other people doing stupid things, oh well you know what they say about glass houses. :face-icon-small-win

Couldn't find one with them all in the same shot, but it's always a good day seeing bulls.

That's freakin funny I will have to give that try for sure my next time through!!
A couple weeks ago when we went through we saw a big group of stick fairies that had parked about two feet from a sign that said NO PARKING OR WALKING I guess they thought that this didn't apply to them and there 3 foot camera lenses.
