How to fix my gravel driveway?

I do not think that concrete is superior to asphalt. We use concrete to fill in wet sloppy roads as it tends to soak up the moisture. In our area asphalt is used more in places that we want the benifits of hot mix without the expense. As you said, you process 50-60 thousand ton's of rap a year for roads, parking lot's, driveway and use in the asphalt plant. I was just saying that in this instance to firm up his road that I thought that concrete was the answer.

Cool Out!!!! :D:D:beer;:beer;

Cool thank's! :beer;

How do you taper and get it to match up with my cement pad in front of the garage?

Just ask what the compaction rate is.
If you want say 4" of rap, they will tell you it compacts 1".
So you need 5" of rap.

take stakes and drive them in, leaving 6-8" above the height of the top of the drive. Spacing is up to you, but I would go for 4' spacing for ease of leveling.

You can run a string between the stakes down each side to get the edge level from side to side and full lenght. Using the above total (before compaction) height. Put the string at 5" above the current level of your drive.

You can run a temp string from side to side and diagonly to get the center height for your taper. To be honest I don't remember what the center height was for my taper, but I think it was 1.5".

I just had em dump the loads spaced evenly the lenght of the drive and then spread it out with rakes. Takes time but will save you a bundle. Then go down to your local equipment rental store and get a good roler and have fun.

The place that sells you the rap will be an excellent source of info on exactly how to do it and what you will need.

if you need to get the truck to haul...and the packer to pack...and possibly a grader to grade....etc...etc...put your feet up and watch the game and go the few extra dollars and let the guy with the equipment get er right...charge your neighbours to watch so they can learn when they want to do it themselves...

Awwwwww heck, I'd leave it. If you leave it, your weenie friends with 2WD's will then stay away.

what ever you decide to do, you must wait for the frost to come out of the ground. it has not been warm enough to bring it up yet. you are just thawing and refreezing the top and that is why it is so soopy. it just does not want to warm up much this spring!
