How to check impeller

I have a stg 1 MCX turbo on a doo 1200. Seeing as the turbo are the same, I thought I would ask here.

How do you check the impeller for condition?
The fins seem to be fine, but I have about a 1/64" up and down play. Enough to feel it, and just enough the impeller may touch the housing.

I am used to a Garrett, and the free spin does not seem to be as loose as a ball bearing set up. But that may just be the turbo itself.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the turbo is sitting with the impeller horizontal, I have up and down movement, but no side to side movement.

All turbo's have shaft play. If they didn't you wouldn't be able to get oil to the bearings. Ball bearing turbo's have more shaft play then journal bearing turbo's but journal bearings also have shaft play. Like Franklin said, if it's not rubbing on the housing don't worry about it.
