How to change clutch weights?

what is the torque value for the weight pin bolts?

what is the torque for the 6 spring cover bolts?

thanks

Is it normal to be able to move slightly the weight left to right when bolted in the clutch? I mean nothing extreme but still able to move.

I find it odd that most seem to insist on pulling the cover to change weights!.

One reason....because it's safer. I ALWAYS pull the cover. With a cordless impact it takes literally like 30-45 seconds. To reassemble, line up cover X with spider X and put enough tension on cover with my knee to get the first three cover bolts going. I also never loktite the cover bolts and have never had one come loose in 20 years of doing it this way.

To each his own I guess.....

I agree it is safer to pull the entire clutch but the easiest way is use adjustable weights. So easy and convenient.

Always line the cover X up with the X on the moveable sheave not the spider. If the spider has been shimmed it will be clocked different than original.

Say what? Couple points....there's no factory 'X' on the moveable sheave on my clutch....only the spider and cover. Also, whenever the spider is pulled to be shimmed, the relation to the cover and moveable never change, only in relation to the fixed sheave. I've always marked the moveable when shimming so the clutch always goes back together the same.

Better have another look. And you are wrong with timing/indexing the spider. Hunt it up in your repair manual. This has been a problem for a long time, miss information. Crank problems follow.......

Edit:indexing

Yep, you're right, sorry....didn't follow what you were saying. I never saw enough of a difference on the Cat clutches I shimmed. Tried moving the spider position and was farther off than it was. Have yet to shim a Polaris clutch.

Just bought an RMK and I ride at 1000' and at 5000'. Should I get Dalton adjustable or 2 sets of weights? I understand Polaris doesn't have clickers, how do you deal with smal adjustments?

Dalton adjustables. Different length (weight) set screws make easy adjustments for small elevation changes.
