How tight should my track be?

I have an M7 and I just put the 2 wheel kit on. I marked the hifaxes but still want to make sure i've got the track just right. Don't want it too tight or too loose..

book says 2 inches from bottom of hifaxes to track with 20 pounds of pull on the track. this is a little tight if you ask me. i run mine just like blackcloud, if it don't ratchet is not too loose, unless you stab it;)

The way we adjust them is like this,

Adjust it out till you get it to ratchet as you stand up off a convexity, then tighten is a tad till it doesn't.
As loose as possible without ratcheting is what I shoot for.

That's what I always went for until I read something along the way that said:

-you shouldn't run a track too loose because it will rob HP by partially wrapping around the drivers. especially with the new single ply tracks
-too loose you could stab
-too tight you loose hp to rolling resistance.

Book says 2 to 2.5 inches with no weight on the track for the M-series. I run mine at 2.5 and have never had a problem. This year when the snow falls I plan on doing what backcountry is life said. I agree with looser is better.

This might be a dumb question, but... With outside wheels I have always been told to measure the track overhang from the rear wheel, and adjust acordingly till they match. How do you adjust the left to right with inside wheels? Do you measure the tensioning bolts or just eyeball up the gap between the tunel and the track?

Tighten or loosen either of the tensioning bolts to center the track. The track moves away from the side you tighten.

If you really want to measure it pick something to measure to, the rails or something. You can just as easily eyeball it and just turn the adjusters to get it to straighten out.
