How often should you replace the fuel filter?

Just booked my 2013 Pro for the 1000 mile service and they said it's time to replace the fuel filter. Seems early to me?

I do mine yearly, around 1000 or so miles

There's a thread around here somewhere with a little bit cheaper filter.... Filters are cheap compared to a burn down

I think people get to worked up over changing the filter so often. That filter is basicly the same as a fuel filter on a car, lets take a vote on how many people change the filter on there car every 1000 miles! I guess i'll take my chances and let it go longer. LOL

EXACTLY!! I will also add that almost all cars and light trucks 2006 and newer don't even have a fuel filters anymore. just a strainer on the fuel pump. The ones that do have them its tough to get people to change them every 30-50,000 miles.

I don't plan on changing mine anytime soon. Eric

Where is the cheapest place to get one for a 13. spi does not work on the 13 and they won't have one for at least another month. My local dealer in idaho falls wants 150

The Polaris manual says to do it every 2000 miles & the dealer says 1000. I think I'm going to wait for the SPI one to come out.

It depends how clean your fuel is. A few years ago, I completely plugged a filter on my 900rmk within a season. You would be shocked at the sediment that comes right out of the pump at your favorite gas station. I consider a filter change pre-season maintenance... although I do put on alot of miles in a season.

X2. I'd rather pay $150 for a filter rather than $1000 for a top end plus the headache!!! I seen a buddy fight a crappy running 680 Honda Rincon for 2 years, he changed the cam, pipe, etc. at the same time and the quad ran like crap. He yanked everything off with no difference in performance... Found the fuel filter plugged with black crap from the inside of the tank; changed the filter and ran like new!!

I'm changing mine every season. I had a plugged filter last year on my boondocker turbo, I kept hitting the det. Light took me days to figure it out.. only l
800 miles

IMO pre filtering is not the solution. I had a filter that I took off that was very difficult to breathe through and decided to take it apart to see what it looked like. There was nothing inside visible to the naked eye. I will be changing mine every other year since my miles are usually split between 2 sleds. IMO it should be done every 1,000 miles just to be safe rather than sorry.

Im not sure on the details, how big, where its located exactly, ect. But why not just look at it and decide if it needs to be changed from there?

you arnt supposed to breathe the gas :face-icon-small-hap

What are the dealers charging to do this? I understand the filter is about $150. Just wondering on the labor. Does the dealer have to do it for the warranty to be good yet?

At just over 1000 miles on mine I changed, when I took it off there was a very bad restriction in it. I believe that was casing some bogging issues at the end of the year before.

I would change it at 1000 miles, and sleep better.
