I think the snap from the spoon is what distracted him. They should have instructed him how to pull the pin and just hurl the thing. Not release the spoon and then toss it. You could tell right away the guy had no idea what to expect when he asked "can I pull it with my teeth?" and you hear the cameraman giggle. I'd say the guy was ignorant but that was the fault of the guys instructing him. They could have easily all been injured or killed due to their stupidity.
