How much wrap does it take?

Going to be wrapping my pipes with titanium header wrap and need to know how much to order. How much does it typically take to properly wrap one pipe for your guys' turbo applications? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Alex

It took exacty a 100ft x1" roll from Speedway Motors to wrap my 2010 M8 pipe. Sprayed with silicon wrap coating going on its second year and still looks new. I soaked mine in a 5 gal. bucket of water as I wrapped it with no ill effects but its messy.

Like TheBreeze, I used about 130 ft of 1". Don't even try the 2" because some of the bends are hard enough to make with the 1". You can connect rolls of wrap by overlapping a few inches and stapling it. Just connect them on the back side of the pipe and them wrap over the union once more incase the staples let loose.

I started wrapping clockwise at the y-pipe end and all was smooth sailing until the decreasing radius on the can end. I couldnt get it to stay tight, so I zip tied that part and started at the other end, but wrapping counterclockwise. This way when the two loose ends met in the middle I was able to stable them together and hold them down with one wrap of safety wire. After that I used a whole can of sealer which glues everything together, then wrapped both ends plus my union in the middle with silver high temp tape. I've only got 4 rides with it, but I don't see it loosening. If it does I'll reseal it and wrap the whole thing in high temp tape.

I used 2 50' 1" black rolls and 5 cans of black spray, that stuff soaks it right up.

Start from the center work your way out. You have to wrap TIGHT or it wont go very nicely (take your time!!!). I've wrapped 4 pipes from the y pipe and muffler in and tied them together fell off 4 times out of 4. This is just what I have found works the best for me.

Blasted my can and fixed a few cracked/crappy welds, wrapped my pipe near where it was melting crap and coated them in VHT ceramic paint. Black for the can, silver the pipe and wrap. On a side note the pizza I cooked after these didnt kill me. The reducing radius part near the can is a PITA and will get tape at a later date. Just short of 2 50" rolls of 1" his far.

i agree with this, same amount as well.

i used the stainless zipties all over, then i got some stainless welding wire and criss crossed the wrap from both ends of the pipe.

the first wrap i used was not very good.

the second wrap i used was from summitt racing, it was thermal tech brand i used about 130' as well plus thermal dynamics spray (2 cans)
once it was dry i used my heat gun to heat it up a few times.

it did not shed any fibers or anything.

the first wrap was shedding burnt fibers all over, it would have made a mess had i run it on sled to begin with without preheating the pipe with my heat gun.
something to look for.

one other thing i did was i took my pipe and welded a bunch of warts/bumps all over it, probably 100 or more, i figured with these little bumps everywhere it would help hold the wrap on as well. (Klimbing Kitty gave me this idea, and it works!!!)

i think as far as performance, it will keep pipe temps more consistent so your tune should not change as much depending on kit.

best part is no more of the silver fibers all over the engine bay making everything look dirty..

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/THE-11021/ here is the stuff i used, if you look at the right hand side of the page you will see the silicone spray as well...
