How much 1st gear?

How much do you guys use first when in snow? I'm having troubles with my bikes clutch drag and one solution would be an auto clutch but if I'm never in first in snow then it might not matter that much since the issue is I'm hitting a lot of neutral on hard take-offs between first and second. I think it's because of the drag. But I'm reading that a lot of guys don't like the auto clutch in snow anyway so... It would be a 750$ solution that might not be necessary.

On A 2 stroke it is used in the steep and deep.. At some point you need it.

Once you get a rekluse u will love it. Great on snowbike but I was surprised how awesome it is in summer with the rubber back on. Makes tight trial riding in summer so sweet.

Sounds neat, and I recently rode a te300 with a recluse and was impressed with how it made tight technical a breeze but my bike is more general purpose hooligan machine and won't see a lot of technical trail riding other than snow so not sure if I would get enough benefit from it to justify. If it only sees first occasionally on snow then might not be a factor as the rest of the shifts are fine. The dragging clutch issue has really got me bummed though as it makes me really flinched when shifting from first. Almost got run over by a gravel tuck last night because of stupid decision+accidental neutral. Not cool. Today tore down clutch and everything spec out okay. Considered bent shift fork but now I'm thinking its a dragging issue.

you should be able to shift without the clutch. If it still hits neutral then something is wrong besides the clutch. I don't think a recluse is needed on a snowbike. Just gas it and let the clutch out. Its easier than in dirt riding technical trails. I use the manual clutch a lot on my 2 stroke snowbike to get the pv open.

I barely use 1st gear on my bike when winter rolls around, mostly when trying to get unstuck so I don't have to spin the clutch as hard, otherwise I always launch in 2nd. I rode a husaberg 570 for a handful of rides and I was launching in 3rd half the time.

You should not be grabbing neutral all the time. Something needs addressed on your bike, don't bandaid it. Also could be something as simple as the shifter is a little high and your toe doesn't get a full lift on shifts because of range of motion restrictions caused by your boots.

Shifter can't be lowered any more. It has like 1mm clearance to frame.

I think I am running too much oil due to a concern about the slipper clutch being under oiled on these and some guys running more oil than recommended because the engine was originally designed to do so. However the original engine was installed in bmw with a slightly different clutch. I tried lowering oil level and it seems improved. So, probably my mistake.

Thanks for the input. I'd see not drop another 700$ into the bike with auto clutch although I'll admit I'm curious if I would like it.

If you are good with a clutch you will dislike the rekluse. It's a merely a crutch on dirt. I hit neutral a lot as well until I regeared shorter. I usually start in 2nd now, no neutral problems.
