How many use a MotoCross style helmet?

What is anyones best guess as to the percentage of riders that use a motocross style helmet (with goggles) when riding? Is it 50% of the riders in the mountain, or closer to 75%, more or less? I realize the mid-western riders may be more accustomed to a full face helmet due to the extreme cold temps.

Also, does this trend follow into Canada and Alaska where temps can be quite low as well?

Everyone in our group has both which is 7 or 8 riders ranging in age from 4 to 62 except me, I ride with my MX all the time. We ride the mountains and some in Cypress. When it is very cold they all use their enclosed helmets. My 15 year old daughter actually uses her enclosed all the time.

Everyone I ride with uses a Moto-X style helmet. The only time I would even contemplate using a full face is on long, cold trail rides.

Just my .02

i see people, but personally i don't know anyone who rides with a full face.. all MX and the majority of what i see are MX helmet riders too..

in the last 6 or so years I've ridden with about 2 people with anything other than moto style helmets.

A street/ trail type helmet is just poorly fitted to the strenuous nature of mountain sledding.

From what Ive seen on the trail here in Alaska, I'd put it at 75% MX style, 25% modular/fullface.

I ride with a MX as well as all in my group.

I know one out of 20 around here and rarely see full face helmets, the one has to where glasses and most of the time its up. When I was in WA I never rode with anyone that had a full face. I still use my mx at -30* but use better gear, most of the time cold is only -10.

Have not seen a full face helmet in use in a long time up here. If a riding buddy showed up with one it would be funny:tongue:

the last time i saw a NMFH was on a guy riding a rental sled. Even out here in SD I dont see a full face one very often. Mainly on some old guy just putting around. I see more around here without a helmet than I do with a full face one even.

More and more showing up in the midwest too...though I suspect it is more fashion then function.

no fashion here .. I like to breathe, boondockin kicks my butt real fast..
Plus those flip up helmets are hard to put lights on..:D

i would agree that generally the midwestern riders wear modular or full faced helmets, but they are needed when your riding trails that are 10 mile straight aways and its colder than %^it out... when we ride out west 7 out of 8 ride mx helmets.

I'd say 75% MX Style and 25% Full Face in south central Alaska. I wear an MX style with breathguard and balaclava, but on really cold days I miss the old full face Polaris AF-1...except for the frozen fog on the lens.
