How many miles do you put on an poo before replacing water pump bearing/shaft/seals?

And what all do you replace?
Seems as if this older style with the belt is only good for roughly 4000 miles.
I have seen many of them fail.
My buddies 700 failed in late march, and as you know, its a bad deal... No cooling, no oil!
I know a lot of people replace the belt, but it seems the bearing goes. the shaft slot tends to wobble out where the oil pump makes contact, and ocasionally the seals go bad.
I have also seen wear on the shaft itself.
I still have some friends with older high mileage reparis sleds who have inspected them and replaced the belt, but it seems to me its only a matter of time untill the bearing seizes up and causes serious problems.
To me, once the belt needs to be replaced, you should replace the shaft, bearing and seals.
Also if the shaft slot is wobling out, is this an indication that the bearing is going, or just normal wear?
Thoughts?

I replace the belt every 2,500 miles on my RMK 700 and 800....Have over 6,200 miles on my 700 and 3,800 on my 800 and pump has not failed on either. When I had an XLT, it was obivious when the pump failed (anti-freeze) turned the snow green. At that point, I replaced it right away.......
