How long will a belt last after it starts throwing threads???

The belt on my XP is finally showing some thread wear. I've got about 600 ( lots of powder days!!!) miles on it. From what I've been reading I think that's some sort of record. So my question is how much longer will it last or is it just a guessing game. Can you still get a lot more miles out of her, or is it once a thread comes out your about done??? I have two spars and am heading to Cooke in Two days

as soon as the thread is even showing on my belt I am replacing it and the dealer has no problem doing that. If you have ever spun those threads off into the inside of your primary and ruined that seal it is not fun. Anyone running the 377 yet and having any luck?

keep a bic lighter handy to burn the the threads as they grow, also i put a dremel to the threads and sliced it up inside just for a backup belt till I get the good.

Saturday I towed out an M7 that shat the bed, kinda pooched my $130 belt and found pieces of cord comin apart on the hill the next day, my spare wasn`t too much better so rode hard with it all day and it worked. I would say a full cord out the one side, and like mentioned I would prefer to have it outa there before it grenades or tears out the PtO seal!! New one was in the truck so I took my chances.

Yes Yes Yes

YEP, it works great. I got tired of cleaning up strings in my engine compartment from the 253 and the 166.

My belt usage has steadily increased, first belt lasted 200 miles and I am now consistently getting about 70 miles out of a belt. First sign of a cord and I had about 15 miles left. My last trip I ran with a 19 tooth gear on a belt that should have pulled cords (according to my belt life expectancy program) and I did not even touch a cord. Hope the re-gear was my solution!

My first belt only went about 100 miles before the threads started coming out. I went to a 19 gear and tried a Ultramax XS belt and it went 600 plus miles. Also it seemed to grip better and the clutches did run cooler. However I'm sure that had more to do with the gearing. I just got the new 377 we will see how it holds up.....

It will last 50-100 years if you take it off the sled:face-icon-small-win
Seriously if it's because of a bad set up and your clutches are getting really hot your doomed. In that case you need to baby it home. First do cut the cord and then burn it with a match or lighter, then baby it home and let it cool down after every hard pull. Check it frequently and you'll make it home. However if it's because of a long hard pull or abnormal beating and you cut and burn it right away, you could get another 3-400 miles out of it (I have anyway). But either way ALWAYS carry a spare.
