How long should your riding clothes keep you dry

I have an expensive pair of North Face Gortex snowboard pants....this past season was their 4rth and I'd say they are about done for keeping moisture out.

How many of you have treated your gore tex stuff like you are supposed to? Recomendation is after every wash to go through the recoat process.

My Klim outer gear has 7 seasons on it and is still perfect. Since then I have gone mid layer Klim and boots also. It's the best out there and as long as I ride and they are in business they have earned my money.

Call me crazy but I know some of our seasons vary some might consider 8 or 9 rides a season and others 1500+miles a year a season. Might help us get a better idea how long your gear is lasting if you note how much you ride a season. Just a thought after reading this.

A lifetime gurantee doesnt always mean your lifetime. It could also mean the expected lifetime of the product. My riding gear never keeps me dry anyways. But its no big deal, you can only get wet to the skin. The ride back kinda sucks though when your fingers are frozen to the shape of the bars. As long as the temp isnt colder than -30 I dont really care about gettin wet.

I used to feel the exact same way about riding... UNTIL LAST YEAR... I upgraded to Klim gear and I was not wet once last year. You couldnt pay me enough to ever ride wet again... The defference is AMAZING... Sitting in the truck going home as dry as when you left in the morning ... No shivering for 40 miles..... Buy the nicer gear it is a no-brainer

x2

riding wet saps your energy and strength, I was amazed how much longer/better I was able to ride when not soggy wet to the skin. Most of my ridding pards do not have Klim, it's hard to get them out when the weather isn't perfect....wheras I don't give two chits in my Klim gear.

Ya, I'm a foul weather rider now baby!

Where do you get the revive x? Will it work on non goretex gear?

Not sure if it works on non gore tex stuff?

I got my stuff from Aerostich (sp?) out of Duluth MN. It's a motorcycle gear place I guess. I just goggled the name Revive X or Gore Tex water treatment and found the place. Since I'm in MN it's here the next day even with standard shipping. I got the big 12oz bottle which is good for the pants and jacket together. Gander Mtn used to have it in Lakeville but last time in there they didn't have any so I went the route I'm using now.

the key is to have gear that is BREATHABLE
most gear will keep you dry on the outside, but the problem lies within
like said before, you go from standing, to riding, to digging etc...
a jacket w 10,000mm waterproofing does you no good if it has 3,000mm breathability

no doubt Klim is decent gear and "typical snomobile" gear
i just dont like the way it looks, personally and don't find it very functional

i rock a Sessions Jacket w 20,000mm waterproofing & 15,000mm breathability
and 686 shorty pants, also w 15,000mm waterproofing & 10,000mm breathibility
washing your gear w proper detergents is also key
dont use your Regular "TIDE"

i use this stuff called NikWax
its made especially for waterproofed gear & Gortex
it wont clog the goretex and keep the waterproofing/breathabilit in tact
only need to do this twice a year

i could stand in the shower and never get a drop inside
but when im sweaty inside, open a few vents and im dry all day

BUT...again
it all happens from the inside

wearing a proper base layer, like a Helly Hanson Lifa is key
w a cotton t-shirt on top
the base layer will wick moisture and the cotton will absorb it
hense, keeping you dry

so a long story short...how long should your gear keep you dry?
all day if you have good chit and your dressed proper
and, if you take care of it and store and wash it proper, at least 4-5 seasons

but then you need to buy new stuff to "look cool" ha ha ha!!

peace out!
