how does the float rear skid hold boost down??

Just curious for opinions on the float rear skid and how it handles moderate boost levels... say 8-12#... I was interested in something a little better for my yamadoo and was told these arent half bad.. dont have the budget for a fancy skid.. so just shopping around.

if you could find a good deal on one, then get a simmons wheelie controler it would probably work ok. if you want to make it work even better stick some zbroz shocks in it. that is the set up I am running and it seams to work pretty good.

its not about float vs a spring rate shock......its about stock skids will not keep the front end down under big boost, period

a few places sell a rear skid lock (for lack of a better term) this rear lock basically only lets the rear shock move a bit or not at all, a few folks here are running it, and it does just fine, and great for the money, however you cant get the ride of a 2K skid without paying 2K:face-icon-small-coo

i got a M sled OVS rear coupler for sale, $300 new, $200 and its sold.....it does have a bit of re-work so the thing would work and fit better

Hatchers, he's not talking about a big boost sled, he said 8-12 (on an rx motor).

I would think a float skid with a bit of massaging would work just fine.

At 14+ ours gets a bit high, but other than that it's pretty easy to keep it down. I can't see the extra 90 lbs in the front making it any harder.

Just some info, I can't really give accurate info, just what I've heard and seen.
my dealer puts the AC float skid under both apex's and nyrto's. There have been others run the stock apex skid, a timbersled setup and another, not sure what. His sled(apex), especially with the PC track went from being cool to rip your arms off. There is one apex with same turbo setup but with the maverick track and timbersled skid and on the same boost 12-14lbs the skinner PC track walks away climbs higher and he says its what gave it the rip your arms off feeling. It appears the setup works awesome on both the apex and Nytro and the way he rides it doesn't appear to have a wheelie problem.

The 2010 pg M8T on 8lbs will out do the other apex(one with maverick track) pretty convincingly. But he is one of the better riders and always makes sure his sleds run at there best.

the maverick track will do it... my sled ran about 10x better going from a maverick to a attack 20.. so that gives you an idea of how crappy the maverick is... I might try a float style skid or a mtn tamer.. stil not sure. I like the idea of the coupling on the t-sled.. I definately need that.

From what I've seen the mt taimer is a trencher setup. seen it on a few apex's, and once on a D8T and my piped M1000 would out climb it just because of trenching. Maybe its the setup but I would not recommend it.

I like the float skid for all around function but how it will react in your application? I dont think anyone has done it. The question is will it be better than your stock skid? Hell yes!. Will it be better than a CR m10 at keeping the front end down? no but i think all around better than what you have. I know Shain (twisted) had a KMOD that flat worked on huge boost im not sure if he is still running it but thats big money as well... I say do it. It will improve your sled for a reasonable amount of money. Besides ....whats wrong with wheelies?:face-icon-small-ton

For some reason the cat skids work better in yami that cats. I sold both my last two cat skids to nytro guys in canada and they said they worked well up to 16lbs. On the cat they are worthless IMO above 12lbs.

revalving and adjustment make a big deal on that much boost.

I`m also looking for a adjustable rear skid coupler. Trying to find the OVS rear coupler but they got some serious website problems ..! Do anyone have pics on different rear coupler designs for the M-series?
