How Do You Sidehill?

I can't effectively tug my joystick with my left hand, why would I want to control my throttle with my left hand?

No need for a lefty, just muscle that sled to the left and get after it!!

ROTAX has that sh*& down!!! you wanna know how to side hill talk to that dude! he pulled some crap out of his a$$ last year that blew my mind!!!!

ROTAX - you remember turning out of that valley in RE???? that was amazing to me, billy and brandon...

lol, yep, and that one had me a bit skeerd too after i commited to it! haha but i couldn't let it taunt me and win either! :P

I really like a lefty for starting a left turn when the right side is down hill. I rode the last 3 rides this year w/o one and I really miss it.

It depends on the snow. In good pow stand staight and tall and pull 'er over. I stiff stuff whatever it takes, grab stap an countersteer.

Sidehilling is having the bars tall enough to let your weight do the work.
If you need your strap or lefty to sidehill most of the time, your bars are not high enough.
I can do my best sidehilling with my hands on the bars, I don't feel I have good control when using the strap.

In pow its easy, just lean. when its harpack i have found that the right weight xfer is all you need an i only weight 160 with gear so i dont have a lot to pull with, dragging a leg is for faster sidehills, it seems that if i am trying to get stuck on a sidehill to help somebody and go slow, its damn near impossible, mtn straps are really useless besides tipping the sled over in the trees, leftys are good for the same situations, and i cant justify one, i just bring a saw.

the hardest on mountain thing i have learned is the going down and turning the sled around on the hill, if you want to carve left, learn left and turn right to get the sled on its side and then pin it and spin, in the powder just lean really hard, it is probably the coolest feeling ever to get these down.

a good climb to sidehill to carve straight up always looks cool especially if you do it on the face of a knob, like an off camber carve, they look amazing.

weight transfer is bothe legs on the same board about 6 inches apart, knees bent and lean hard. and getting the gas at the right time makes it. wow, that was long!

It's the downhill sidehills that get me a bit nervous. Getting better at that though. It's a bit harder for me as I am a bit short (5'6" and 175lbs) but am finding that different ski's make a difference as well. Nothing looks better than seeing someone coming down a steep hill, button hooking on the way down and going back up. Gotta love it.

Countersteer and wfo with both feet on the uphill side. Farthest I ever done it was about 3/4 of a mile. Lefty's imo are a waste of time in most situations. I have one and a grab strap, but when sidehilling you want a good grab on the bars or the first drift you hit, you're DONE.

Here is a sweet one I did, before and after. And another by itself.

:eek::eek: Your tracks there shark??:eek::eek:
Thats one of the craziest climbs I have ever seen!
You must have about 1 gallon of adrenaline in you after that one

I was wondering how some of you all sidehill? what is your technique? do you use your side hill strap or lefty throttle? This should be interesting forum.

My technique is to sidehill like my life and/or sled depend on it.(happens frequently) :)
I use the strap rarely, and usually in tight spots where I need to hang off just a little further.....
Leftys' are for geriatrics and lazy folks. IMO. I mean, your hand and thumb are all ready there. How hard is it to push the throttle anyway???:D
Just something else for me to break.

deep snow i just ride across the hill counter steering when needed
marginal/spring snow lean hard on one side of sled counter steering often
in crappy situations on the edge of no-mans land slow speed i am all over the strap and lefty until i get the sled pitched somewhat up hill then back to normal. in really tight areas i hate to have to spin my sled around manually!

i see a lot of comments on counter steering...but at least w/ the Rev, it takes input through the tunnel (as in wt xfer from side to side) alot more than the skis?

on a FLAT field and carving/turning, yes, counter steering works. i'll have to play w/ counter steering on a sidehill...hmm... may end up crashing! :P

grab a handfull of throttle and lean whichever way you want to go!!!! i personally feel that left hand throttles are a complete waste of time, just one more thing to put on a sled to make guys feel better.... (here comes the bashing)

I agree!!! Had a lefty, tried to get used to it, took it off put it on ebay!
