How do I sell a snowmobile?

I am in Wyoming and plan on selling my 2011 Sled to buy a new "SnowCheck" the dealer does not offer a lot as a trade in so I was wondering how and when do you sell a used sled.

I would imagine summer would not be a market so early , mid or late season? I have advertised in Craig's list and also on the Salt Lake City KSL.com classified and not had much luck even at a smokin price.

So how best to move a sled?

Forums are a good venue. I bought my sled off of this one. But the time to sell in my opinion would be fall - early winter. If you could hold out until then. If not, you are gonna basically give the sled away especially since a lot of riding areas are coming to an end. I started looking as a buyer around the first of December to purchase. If the snow was better, I would have been looking earlier.

Clean it up really well and take good pics--all sides, under the tunnel and hood.

List everything, including any accessories and mods, and any dings or repairs.

Be realistic about value when setting the price and be willing to either take a huge loss to unload it, or not sell it at all.

Pro Tip: Have someone proof read your ad. If you're like most SW'ers you can't spell and most people will assume your sled is a ragged out hunk-a-junk if the ad reads poorly. (sorry but that's the reality)

List it here and keep trying CL. Your best bet is sell it now while there's still riding to be done.

Present it well...good photo's, lots of descriptions, POST A PHONE# and be sure to post the price.

Selling a sled this time of year you will have to be below value to move it. Or wait till next and squeeze what you can. As for setting price dont beleive that book b/s. Go to the forums and try to buy your sled and see whats there. Your competition may surprise you.

Good comments. I would also say that if it works into your master plan you should sell next fall. The prices and motivation always picks up as the first snow of the season begins to fly.

But I would advertise it on Snowest for close to what you want, you never know unless you try and a free ad has the right listing price.

Good pictures as Himark stated.

like has been stated do some research on your sled and what they are going for and price accordingly. good pics the cleaner the better. As far as now vs the fall I would say through it up now and see what kind of interest you get if nothing happens then revisit at the beginning of next season.
Hope this helps

And location.
City & State.
These foktards who don't list a location, and then when you ask they reply which state (no name of town WTF?).....need to have their face slapped for being so dadgum stupid!

If you're so ashamed of your jerkwater hometown that you don't want to admit being from the village of shatbrains then move!

If you want to move it, especialy in the spring, sell lowest range of what is worth.
I bought 2 sleds posted on Snowest, both in spring, and did so because I thought the price was good and was worth having the sled even if had to wait until next season to ride. I have seen some post the sleds I thought too high and then to see them still trying to sell the sled a year later.
I would definitely buy a sled in the spring if I was in market for one and thought I was getting a deal.

PRICE PRICE PRICE.
The price will sell your sled for you. Keep dropping the price untill you get calls. There are so many sleds for sale everywhere and the only thing that will set yours apart form the next one is the price.
And if you think you will get more for it next fall, I find that thats not true.
People will recall what they heard things selling for the year before and will try not to spend more them that.
PRICE PRICE PRICE
Keep dropping the price and it will sell any time of the year.
sleds that I sold this year.
2007 cross fire 500 1,200 miles $2000 tried to sell it for 2 mouths nov. dec.
2009 polaris 800 rmk with new engine 1,800 miles $4,500 jan. 10th
2007 m1000 2,500 miles $3000 feb. 14th
2006 suzuki ltz 400 4 wheeler looked like new $1600 oct.
I just bought a 2008 m1000 with only 300 miles on it for $5000 I feel I might have over paid but its new and its a sled I wanted.

As said, pic, pics more pics.
Pics of extras, pics of flaws.

List maint. done
List maint needed
List compression.

Unless convinced otherwise, the buyer assumes;
clutches need rebuilt
hyfax needs replaced
chaincase oil needs changed
carbides shot
track is worn

I hate dealing with buyers off craigslist, lots of BS'ers per serious buyer. Takes alot of free time and time is $$.

Try to get more on trade in, you only have to pay tax on the difference so this helps.

Dealers should want clean used sleds, my dealer made more $$ selling my trade in then he did on the sled I bought.

Since this topic address/s a recent topic discussed with a seller where ad is posted I will not disclose....anyway,

A good way to get a sled sold would probably be to NOT have a video like this anywhere on the net...specially if that sled is going to be for sale. Nice vid though!

Sales lesson #1. You started a thread on a public forum that has been viewed over 300 times by over 100 people(potential buyers) and all we know is that you have a 2011 sled. Seriously, take advantage of all your opportunities to get your product out in front of the buying public and do all of the other good stuff these guys said.
