how did you do in math in school?

Guess I am still dumb as a bag of hammers, cuz I am lost big time.
And yes I suck at math and the such.:) I'll admit it.

hey bull take the first three of your phone(we will say it is 345)multiply by 80 (345*80=27600)add 1 (27600+1=27601)multiply by 250 (27601*250=6900250)then add the last 4 digits of your number(we will use 2001)so (6900250+2001=6902251)then add the last 4 again(6902251+2001=6904252)then subtract 250 (6904252-250=694002)and finally divide by 2 (6904002~2=3452001 and our original # was 345-2001...

It's an algebra problem with two variables. X = the first three numbers of your phone number and y = the last 4 numbers.

X x 80+1 x 250 + y + y - 250 / 2 = 0

I just can't remember how you find the value of two different variables within the same problem. Shouldn't have slept through so many math classes in HS I guess.

I don't think you did it right, because you answer should be XY not zero, and your order of operations are a little off. And people call me anal.:p
(((X*80)+1)*250 + Y + Y - 250) / 2 = X*10,000+Y

simplified 1
(((80*X+1)) x 250 + 2*Y -250) / 2 = X*10,000+Y

simplified 2
(20,000*X + 250 +2*Y -250)/2= X*10,000+Y

simplified 3
(20,000X +2Y)/2 = X*10,000+Y

simplified 4 and solved
10,000*X +Y = X*10,000+Y

Yes, I have no life, and yes I am bored. And thus the excitement for the night ends......

X x 80+1 x 250 + y + y - 250 / 2 = XY

Somebody on here has to know binary good... or am I the only geek here?

Division and multiplication are shifts if I remember correctly. Damn, I wish I didn't chuck that HC11 book as far I as I could through it.

well dang ruffy, I havent been to school in over 25 years..thats a lot to remember all these years..and at this point we start forgetting things anyway....lol

Hey AK, try 652 in this formula. It don't work, even my wife and 10 yr old girl tried and we all come up with 81500.00, each time.

Let me know if it works for ya. Thanks.

Nay, you just aren't as lame as I am. :beer; I made some mistakes by the way...

hey bull...so lets use 652-2001...652*80=52160, add 1=52161, then multiply by 250=13040250,then add the last 4 digits....+2001=13042251, add 2001 again=13044252,now subtract 250=13044002, and finally divide by 2=6522001...hmmmm

The answer to the right of the equal sign would be 0 before you start the problem though(at least I think, unless I've forgotten everything since algebra). I was not intending to put the order of operations in there either. I'm just saying it's an algerba problem, not some hocus pocus.

binary and hex are what I use a lot at work... much easier to work with than this silly decimal system we have.
