How cool is too cool?

Anyone done any testing on what the limit is for being too cool on the cfi 800?

My new motor is running pretty cool (98-100F in snow here in the flat lands, was running 115 in the mountains last year) and just curious where the line is.
 
I have an aftermarket head and terra alps bypass tstat. Changed to a 2.6 PC track vs the 2. 25 PC last year.

98 to 100 seems pretty cool- and barely high enough for diveability..
I generally run 150 all day in the powder.
Might be your bypass needs to retain more heat/ opening to soon...


I have noticed that on my new pro Running down the trail I am at 156- and boondocking 167 ish...
I shut the sled off- for a break to BS ect..ect.. fire the sled up and temp goes from 150ish to when I take off all the way to 110- COLD SHOCK....
Like to address this - maybe your terra alps bypass tstat system??/ seen alot on here but does yous work to keep the temps even?

The bypass tstat really helps reduce that cold shock. I used to see that swing as well after stopping but not nearly as bad anymore. It also warms up much quicker and holds consistent temps much better.

The timing is reduced after 130 by the ecu so it is ideal to stay under that temp.
 
Ya I was 115 last year and happy with it, not sure what change exactly made it run cooler this year. I am going to get out the temp gun and verify the reading is correct.
 
I was running my 858 w/o stat and it was below 100 most of the time, I did the ski doo stat upgrade and running at 110-115 in powder typically now. This is where I like it. On hard pack, scratchers will keep it under 130

The stock mapping does not like temps lower than 98*.
 
typically 125 F in soft snow all the time.
With the T-Stat out, I run 100-110F. mechanic says there is no problem with this. Just give it more time to heat up.
 
Ya I would be ok if it was over 100. I will check if the tstat is stuck open, it warms up quick though.
 
mine runs 127° all day long with scratchers down. 150 without. all flatlands/offtrail/trail.
 
I could be pulling this from no where, but I thought I read on here a while back that your not even getting the full fuel map until you are above 115, or somewhere in there? any one else heard of this? Id be willing to bet you have a stuck open t stat.

As for too hot, I typically stop if I see like 175, and I would say that is still on the safe side. Our cars run at 210 all day, every day. I would be willing to bet that there are older sleds that are running these temps all the time, we just never had a water temp gauge back then..lol.

Our cars/trucks run at 210* for emission reasons (and heater output). They make more power at a much lower operating temp. I spend a lot of time on chassis dynos getting my race cars to run in the 180* range, its free HP and makes your motors last longer also.

Also keep in mind the a 800cc twin 2-stroke is MUCH different then a 2000cc-6000cc 4stroke that's in our cars/trucks. Eric
