How are your local dealers doing?

I've been too busy to get my sled ready until recently, but I finally went into RMS to get some gear oil and it was like walking into a funeral parlor. What a difference from the last time I was in there. I liked having the place to myself but it won't be good for us if our local dealers go under, I bought a few extra things but no new iron for me. Is anyone buying new sleds?

There's no way a new sled is affordable at a dealer in Canada. The extra 5% sales tax doesn't help either.

Buying a slighly used sled it too good a deal to pass up, expecially since the used sled and car market prices have dropped, thanks to people importing them from the US over the past year.

I'm thinking the dealers will be a little more flexible come about mid-winter....Their showrooms will be full of snow-checked '09's that never got picked up......It's a tough business to be in...

Thats part of your problem. I went in to get some stuff the other day, risers, gear, some chain case oil, and out of stock on all. Went to action and was talking to the kid that I bought my dragon from last fall and he said he had sold almost as many units last mo as RMS did as a whole. RMS is way overpriced. I don't get what they are thinking. Their price they quoted me last year was what I ended up paying out the door from action.

were extremely slow!!! went from 10 units a week to 3! our parts dept is keepin the lights on! we try to deal but lenders dont want to lend!! I hope the snow falls soon because were kinda in between seasons right no almost too cold to dirt bike and no snow to sled!!

Revpilot,

Did you happen to pick up a Diamond Drive gasket for my M8? Who's going to dig your Rev outa the snow with you if I don't get my transmission back into the Buzzard-mobile?

What were you thinking?

Did you offer them a fair price on buying out the dealership?

Our dealer must be hurting. Charged me directly for shipping on a part.
That added another 50% of the cost of the part to the total. This is the first time they've done this to me so when they said they needed my credit card number I assumed it was to make sure I did'nt change my mind and leave them with a part to stock.

Diamond drive? I thought your warp drive was warped! Bought one of those stretchy ropes since you guys don't understand GENTLE. Borrowing a shirt and tie to go talk aquisition "down t' the stake"

buisness is down everywhere......my guess is everyone is pretty slow

Picked up my new sled last weekend. Dealer said their sleds were selling really well so far this year. Lots of people of the floor looking at the new models on Saturday as well even though it was 65 outside. At least one ski-doo dealer in the midwest is having luck. Hope it picks up elsewhere as well.

That's the problem continent wide right now. Most lenders have tightened up their standards so much that it's cutting out a large segment of the buyers. Vehicles, recreational units, houses, you name it. Good or bad, it's the way it is.

Prime example, I know a guy that changed jobs in the last year and makes decent money. He applied for a home loan in Alberta close to where his work would be located, got approved for 260K. The job fell through and he found just as good of one in Saskatchewan and applied for a 180K home loan with the same lender and didn't get approved. All this over the span of 6 months.

That is totally false. I have been a Mortgage Broker for 7 yrs and have done well over 1000 deals. There are three situations that would cause him a problem qualify for the mortgage in Sask. if he has good credit.

1. He is on probation with his new job.

2. The property is garbage.

3. The property isn't worth what he is willing to pay.

The banks are not cutting back loans in Canada. They are just enforcing the existing guidelines for qualifying. No more exceptions. Which is the way it should be!

I'm guessing it's #1. Still, 6 months ago, he was good to go on an even higher dollar loan. I know those rules have always been there, but they weren't enforcing them until now.

You're wrong on not cutting back. GMAC has cut back the precentage over invoice that they'll finance on new vehicles. That margin is so slim now that its handcuffed the dealers on their margins with finance customers. If the customer's credit is good, what's the difference?

Is GMAC not a US company? I thought we were talking Canada here. Why would they want to loan over invoice anyway? I know they did do this a lot. That's asking for trouble if you ask me. What if they had to repo the vehicle because of missed payments. The loan is worth more than the vehicle. It's a lose lose situation.

They only lenders that are cutting back loans in Canada to good credit customers are owned or funded by American companies. Citifinacial,AGF,GMAC.ect.

BMO,CIBC,Royal, TD ect are not cutting back on availability of loans. They only thing they are doing is enforcing guidelines that have been in place for years. It was only the last 1.5-2 yrs that they let things slide a bit.(A very little bit) It is back to the way it was and should be.
