how are the 2012 800's for engine reliability?

just wondering about the engine's?

i currently drive a 09 M8 and have had zero problem's and i like it that way but i love the look and review's of how these pro's work!

but don't like what i've seen and heard of the pro 800's for reliability.

i was talking to a mod shop recently at a sled show and they told me the polaris engine would be bullet proof this year.

this make's me interested!

any help would be great thanks!

Seems like fewer problems listed on here for the 12 Pros than the 12 SnoPro at this time. The cat 800 has been bullet proof but a few changes and whammy some go down due to no oil. I am sure it will be resolved and I am not aware of that type of thing happening with cat for a long while. Nothing is guaranteed but by the third year build for the main manufacturers most of the issues are resolved. I was leaning towards cats but have a personal rule about not buying a first model year sled. I also like the 800 etec in the summit but did not like the piston rebuild/recall so went with a pro. I am happy with it so far. It is to our advantage to let the manufacturers compete, we will all be winners if they keep after it and improve the ride.

I am really hoping the 800 poo is good to go this year because I really wanted one this year but ..as far as no problems last year let's not sugar coat it guys.

very few major failures last year, in fact if you count the percentage of failures versus number sold it would probably be the number one motor if not a very close second, if the motor wasn't under such close scrutiney it would be called bullet proof!!! and if the proclimb motor didn't have such a great rep it would be called the biggest FAIL, no sugar here...

This year will tell the tale for polaris. if the 11 pro make it a second year without problems they have a good motor. First year doesn't matter to me. The second year tells what you got.

:light: BINGO! :light:

I have all my fingers and toes crossed that the 11's make it out of this season alive...cause if they do, I'm dropping the hammer on a 163, and a switchback first thing next fall!:D

Well let me be honest guys I ordered a poo pro but with all the guys on here crying about there motors going down , tunnels cracking and bent running boards I got a little nervous about it and sold it.I really wanted that sled and some of you have changed your tune since last spring so I don't know what happened but now your telling me it's bullet proof....I hope so!!! but that's not what some of u were saying this spring...I know u have to filter the bs with some of these threads but I am really going to be pissed to find out there all crap...

hmm

I guess everyone eventually has to make up their own mind.... In my extensive sledding experience it looked to me to be a quality setup, finally... I was so confident I bought TWO.....

I was up in the air for quite a while myself, looked at all of em, damn near had a M1000, wanted an ETEC, but ended up with the Pro's..

just my two cents

and yes deciphering all the brand bashing, and bias BS on here has become quite an art..

Yeah I really wish there was as sarcasm font so everyone would know right away. Yes, polaris has issues with motor reputation, but this motor has a good record so far, the warranty should cover the rest of your concern.

It's great that the warranty will cover the "rest of your concern" except the burn downs and the lost riding time for you and your buds who pull you out. I have done my share of pulling out sleds of all brands, and I must say I don't mind helping, but I feel for the guys ruined weekend after coming for 6 hours to have some fun and relax. I think it should be "high time" and one or all of the manufacturers should be able to produce a bullit-proof motor. Might not be in the hp range we want, but if down time is an issue, we can have more fun runnin all out on a 600 than being pulled out cause we want the last horsie. I ran the heavy Nytro(590 lbs) full and never ever even thought about a failure. That peace of mind was worth a lot($30 plus) but if getting home EVERYTIME is a big deal there are options out there from different brands, and I think the competition will do nothing but benefit us the consumer in the long run.........02

Yoy actually sold a sled (maybe one of the best sleds ever made) because of what you read on internet forums. Wow! Wish you better luck next time and be careful what you read.

Yes I did sell it...And snowest is not the only reason..And because I don't want to bash any brand lets just say I seen it with my own eyes and will give it another year..I have a couple of friends that have new poo's this year so it will help me with what happens next year.

A loaded question if there ever was one. This is snowest and everyone is basically biased. I had 2 07 revs. Not exactly the most reliabl sled built. One went down at 450 miles. Motor was fixed and became the most reliable sled I have ever had. Other one never had a single problem. Put over 6000 miles on sleds ( combined ) with no problems. Other friend loved his, but it was in the shop constantly. Three motors and never got the clutching right. As with all manufacturers one is flawless and next is lemon. Luckof the draw. Had a bad experience with a 2011 chevy. Got rid of it with 6500 miles. Is the whole line bad ? Doubt it , just got the bad one. The new pro will be soild, or at least I hope so as I have 2 of them. As stated above it is the luck of the draw, but the odds are in your favor.

Camocat, You should probably just listen to what your dealer tells you and forget all of the crap you have heard and read. He's not worried about it-now aren't you supposed to be working?

Put approximately 1100 miles on my Pro 155" last year. No problems with anything other than the the foot wells are a little bent. More than likely it's from pounding on it trying to get the snow off. The rear bumper sucks. Picked up a 2011 163" this fall with 500 miles on it. Come to find out the exhaust socket gasket between the exhaust pipe and the Y pipe failed. Oil all over the belly pan......$02

i am interested in maybe converting to a pro in the next year or two. and this will help in my decision.

glad the engine is working now! cause god knows it was a rough couple years back in 09-10

I had 07 rev and ours ran awesome That should be the one in my avatar. Ours still went down. That wasn't a matter of getting lucky or not. Most of them eventually went down.
1 year - anything should make it one year.
2 years - starting to look like a decent motor.
3 year - now you've got something

Given the option of a Yamaha or a 2 stroke poo, cat or ski doo that may break down, I will choose the sled that isn't terrible 24/7 (Yamaha). Seriously, what's the point of riding a yamaha, without a turbo they are heavy and underpowered, even with a turbo they are only good at going straight up and down hills with the other guys trying to compensate for their shortcomings.
