House Bill 191 - Dog Owners Beware!!!

I dunno if anyone has posted on this yet ............ But this is BS if passed In My Opinion.

http://data.opi.mt.gov/bills/2009/billhtml/HB0191.htm

The short of it for those that don't wanna read it .........If you own a pitbull, bulldog, or off breed the dog must be registered, with vet proof of spay or neutering, MUST BE FIXED!!! etc etc.

Failure to comply will result in immediate surrender and destroying of the dog(s) ......... If not muzzled anytime not on your own premesis, your in violation of the proposed law.

The worst law I have seen along these lines was in California, but not to this level ......... basically they have provision under a "Dog at Large" situation where pits, rotts, mastiff,s etc are destroyed at pickup if roming without some form of ID on the dog and proof of vaccination and any exhibition of agressive behavior........

I'd really like to know this parties agenda

dunno bro....i had a brindle pit a few years ago....great dog....showed no characteristics of a mean animal.........i have seen pomeranians that would tear a guy in half if their mouth could open wide enough.....unfortunately, my moms neighbor's son shot my dog because he wandered over to their property........i guess if you are kind to them and don't feed them gunpowder and horse meat, they will be fine.....who knew!!!!!!

well, if you wouldnt have such a "dangerous" breed, then you wouldnt have an issue. you need to get a "gentle" breed that doesnt have a chance of "turning" on you. like mine. 50% artic wolf 25% timber wolf and 25% malamute:D

It's unfortunate the breed gets a bad image just because of bad/uneducated owners. There are much more dangerous breeds out there, most of which most would not consider a threat because they are not popular and overbread like some of the "trendy" breeds. And even those are fine animals when raised and socialized properly.

Was not a fan of the pitbulls myself....but can't help but wonder when Ceasar Milan (Dog Whisperer) uses his old pitbull, "Daddy" to rehabilitate hundreds of other dogs.

Parents have a ****zu weighing in at 10lbs wet. that thing has my lab in control.

I absolutly feel for you and is a californication for sure.....that said, having a wife who specializes in dog/cat vet medicine, she says 99% of agressive breed dogs are very different when alone or away from their master. your sweet and innocent peaches is likely the tasmanian devil in the OR.

like I said though, I am a punish the owner type of guy.

I just googled Montana Legislature 2009 to find the agenda info. You should be able to do something similar for whatever state you live in.

The bill is on the agenda for the current legislative session ....... Not an actual law yet.

So hopefully it gets killed quick ......... you never know though; if anyone has lobbyist buddies get them on this.

There is a fair amount of junk on the agenda ........ following link takes you to everything on the agenda; gets a little scary sometimes thinking about what people are making decisions that greatly impact our lives............ There are more breeds than pits on there........ !!!!

This is seriously messed up! It's not the breed, it's the owners. My brother-in-law has one of the sweetest Pitbull/Terrier's I've ever seen. His dog, and our Golden will play for hours, and never any sign of trouble. The dog is great with other dogs, kids, and adults.

You can make any dog mean, it's not right to single out the breed. Start putting some consequences on irresponsible owners (of any breed).

What exactly is an aggressive breed dog?

she is at the office today so can only adlib for her. pitts, rotts, chows and terriers tend to be more agressive as a whole when away from their owners. retrevers and pointers tend to be more adaptable. setters and english pointers tend to not deal with seperation well, become shy. these are far from scientific tests, just what she has observed in the last 15 years of seeing them all day. this was all based on a conversation we had after a news article

You gotta start somewhere. This is just a way for those who don't own dogs to legislate to those who do own dogs to keep your dogs under control. Don't let them run where ever they want and you want because you are to lazy to build a fence to keep your dog on your property because you are to lazy to clean up your dogs crap. If pet owners would be responsible pet owners, and I'd bet at least 75% of pet owners aren't. Then bills like this would not even see daylight. Remember just because you love your dog. That doesn't mean that your neighbor does. Especially when the SOB is barking it's head off at 2 in the morning.

exactly. dogs are dogs by nature. you can't throw a ball and stop a lab from bringing it back. you can't put a dog in your yard and think it will just hang out and not bark or wander.....that is their nature.

responsible owners is the key.

Sounds like a good law to me. Nothing pisses me off more than people that let their pets run wild. Be a good owner and keep your dog on your own property.

I do agree dog owners are responible for their dogs & how they are raised. Have a friend with a pitbull that is a pretty decent dog, not good at anything but sleeping & eating but that's besides the point. I also agree the gov't has no place forcing people to register/fix pets.

That being said... how many times do you hear of a lab/retriever/whatever tearing up some kid while it was out of it's kennel or yard?
