hot off the NOAA website

Trav,
I agree completely that the rangers that run Turny and Lost Lake are great about getting out and opening/closing areas as they should be. I agree to that if we got 4' of wet cement, odds are it would open in a day or two. It is raining in Homer right now and snowing on top of the hill. Gut feeling says Seward and the bottom of the pass will get rain and Lost Lake to Turny will get wet cement. I sure hope that is the case. :beer;

As long as it isn't rain, I will take whatever I can get at this point!!! Hope to see you out soon.

When we drove through this afternoon it was snowing from Hope to Turny but as soon as we dropped down to Placer it was sleeting pretty hard ~ temps are way too warm all throughout this area ranging from freezing to 39 degrees between Soldotna and Girdwood. Yes it is snowing higher in elevations but sure is sloppy down low. I hope they are right about the snow but wrong about the wind in the forecast.

This is the only riding that took place on OUR side of the highway today:

and check out the vegetation ~ we have a ways to go yet boys and girls :(

Im headed up to turnagain tomorow morning for a quick boarding trip. I'll post some pics and update on what the weather is doing up there. A friend of mine just went through about an hour ago (10 pm) and he said there was about 5 inches of fresh on the roads and still dumping hard.

Don't you work? It seems like every day your out looking for snow! Not that there is anything wrong with it I'm just trying to figure out WTF I'm doinf wrong!

Good new is we got no rain here in Soldotna. Bad news is we got no snow either. :mad:

The wife drove from here to Seward and back this morning. She hit rain in Cooper Landing, Snow at the "Y", and then back to rain at the Primrose turn off. She said there was 6-8" of snow in Moose Pass area where it was mostly snow. In the rain areas she said you cold look about 1000' up the mountains and see that it was all snow up higher. Looks like this one was just a little too warm to do us much good at the trailheads. Hope it was all snow at Turny.

Apparently someone is playing a cruel joke and hacked the NOAA hydrology website and reported a total snow depth of 58 inches in Turnagain Pass....

turny

just got off the phone with the park ranger they said they will make a decision tomorrow to open turny this week end!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

hey

I called the rangers, and they said they would wait to open Turny until I come back from thanksgiving in Fairbanks.:D Yeah, I know people. Save the snow for me if they open it and be safe and have fun. Happy thanksgiving to all.

I'm going to stay in Gwood tomorrow night, so maybe i will be able to track Carl down and see what the deal is. Worse case scenario I will be at the avy class wednesday, hosted by the CNF Avalanche info center.... so i should know for sure by Wednesday night.
