...major storm will impact southcentral alaska beginning sunday
night...

A major storm will cross the western gulf sunday night and move into
cook inlet by monday before heading inland monday night. As a result
both high winds and snow will impact much of southcentral alaska
beginning sunday night.

A high wind watch is in effect for portage valley and eastern
turnagain arm late sunday night through monday afternoon. A high
wind watch is also in effect along western turnagain arm and higher
elevations in anchorage monday afternoon through monday night. The
heaviest snowfall is expected across higher elevations of western
prince william sound...including turnagain pass...where up to two
feet of snow is possible. The combination of snow and wind will
make travel along the seward highway treacherous.

Although the anchorage bowl and matanuska valley are not expected to
see much precipitation out of this system...strong winds will likely
move in to these areas late monday as the storm tracks inland.

They won't open Turny until there is 3' of BASE. A fresh dump of 4' will not cut it with no base to speak of under it. You wouldn't want to ride it anyway. I would love to be there with a vidoe camera if you do! :D You'd be buying front end parts after the ride.

No offense, but I beg to differ. They will open it if they have 36 inches. If its super fluffy snow, that is a different story. This particular storm is supposed to drop wet snow, if thats the case and the storm drops 3 feet(36 inches), on top of the crappy situation that exists there currently, they would easily open it. Once the underlying vegetation is protected... they will open it, provided it isn't fluff, which is uncommon up there anyways.

Ya, i'm not a park ranger... so i could be wrong, but the statements i made above are definitely reasonable. Those rangers are the most realistic park rangers in the US, on top of that they are fair and overall do an amazing job. Whatever the case tho, i will have no problem respecting whatever decision they make.

Truthfully, I fear this storm will be too warm... and it will rain, but i hope that isn't the case for sure.

In the event it pounds up there and they do end up opening, I welcome you to come and video tape me... I will be staying away from the slide prone areas for the first couple days, but otherwise have NO problem breaking trail.

:beer;

ALL SLEDDING IS CLOSED UNTIL TIM AND I GET OUR SLEDS BACK TOGEATHER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>otherwise all of you would have had to bone your sleds too........

dont you mean in the middle of the ride?..would be pretty tough to tow one out in 4 ft. of fresh..easier to pack parts in...........

Trav,
I agree completely that the rangers that run Turny and Lost Lake are great about getting out and opening/closing areas as they should be. I agree to that if we got 4' of wet cement, odds are it would open in a day or two. It is raining in Homer right now and snowing on top of the hill. Gut feeling says Seward and the bottom of the pass will get rain and Lost Lake to Turny will get wet cement. I sure hope that is the case. :beer;
