Horse Crk -Blind Bull Safety Shelter/Hut - gone & going up

Just wanted to share some pictures of the Sweetwater Snowpokes (club) tearing down and putting up the new safety shelter. This has been a long tedius process from beginning to end (obtaining access, proposals, volunteers donations). Next week we hope to have the roof put on.

These pictures give you a rare look at the area in the summer time. There was still snow at the end of June. We had to obtain permission to access the area during the summer.

We have raised approximately $39,000 for the project. However, we do need another $20,000-$25,000 to finish the project without our poor small club having to take a loan. :) We greatly appreciate all the cash and materials donated so far! Not to mention the few volunteers up there each weekend doing all the labor!

This structure has been used for an emergency shelter in past, including as a helicopter landing to retrieve injured patients. If you would like to support this project, you may mail your donation to:

Sweetwater Snowpokes
P.O. Box 1731
Rock Springs, WY 82901

Thank you! Hope you enjoy the pictures and the new building!

The other officers have the proposal and specs so I can't say for sure how big it is. I am pretty sure that it is close to the same size. An issue that keeps coming up, is that with the oil boom it seems to have attracted some "partiers" to the area. Last year I guess there were a lot parties, people staying overnight and the garbage was unreal. So all agencies involved don't want to make it too cozy to encourage that. For example, only 1-2 days of wood is suppose to be kept there at a time. The groomer will take more up then.
They are building a new stove and have redone the outhouse, as much as they could, and moved it. They will redo the survival barrels that were there as well and restock them. The old building was literally falling apart and terribly infested. Hopefully, everyone will take care of this building and it will last for many years to come. That structure gets a TON of use that's for sure. We hope everyone enjoys it!

More pictures, moving along

Here is one of the latest pictures I've rec. from the site.

Your shelter/Hut is looking great. Our local club is starting a warming hut project in September. Hopefully we will be done before snow flies.

blind bull

Been thru this area a few times on our way to box y lodge. A longs ways from NJ!!! I only hope the snow does not cover up your beautifull cabin this winter. I will check it out this winter.

Skippy, keep the negative thoughts to yourself:D. I hope the new warming hut is covered in snow this winter. That only means 1 thing. Another epic year ahead. C,mon snow

the box y is a great place to go. Horse Creek is one of my favorite places to ride and i'm glad my snowmobile group took up this project, the old hut was torn up, but we still need money please donate and thank to anyone thats already sent money. I was selling raffle tickets for the project and people would ask what the money was for heard it was for sledders and said no I even called it a safety shelter to show that it was really needed and people couldn't care less

I hear ya!!! I guess last year was a big snow year? We didnt make it due to the economy here in NJ, but we are heading out your way this season. We stay at box y and brooks lake. Our guide "snow cave" Dave Leisinger knows the area like no other. We went up and over blind bull twoyears ago in a big blizzard.

almost done, more pics

It's almost done, here are pictures emailed to me from last weekend. (Last year the snow was to the roof.)

What a pretty place! :) I've seen more of that area in the summer than in the winter.. my aunt and uncle (The Roberts.) have a ranch right there! :)

Someone asked about Snoopy? Never fear, he's there!

I was asked about Snoopy on the General Thread. Here he is, all through the project. He'll have a new home soon back on the roof.

Excellent job

The place looks awesome! Donation on the way. I hope that people will respect all the Sweetwater Snowpokes hard volunteered work. And keep in mind that yes it is a great place to meet and mingle, but more importantly it is a safety hut. We all know how fast a storm can move in and stick around and dump a lot of snow. So please take care of and respect the new Blind Bull warming hut and support our local sled clubs. Something I myself is guilty of, til this year.

Thanks for your support! Yes the volunteers have worked hard. I also hope that everyone takes care of it as well. The weather can turn ugly up there any minute, it can be quite scary. Our meeting is tonight so I should get an update and hopefully completed pictures soon.
Thanks again!
