Honing your skills

My skills are perfected in every way! I just float over the snow at all times. People just stand back in awe of my riding capabilities!

Right!

Actually, every time I ride I try to be a little bit more aggresive than the last. But still ride well within my limits as I am getting a bit older now and hate pain!:D

As stated above riding with better riders will inturn make you a better rider. Last year was my first year on a sled and I rode with several good riders and have become a much better rider then I was a year ago. I plan to push my self even further this year and hope I have the oportunity to ride with lots excellent riders.

I also spend lots of time in the gym getting in shape because I dont' care how good you are sleddin is a lot of work and if you push your self hard everytime out you will be draggin a-s-s by the end of the day.

I think most riders would say they "push themselves" every year... but how much do you actually step it up? Its easy to talk the talk. Sitting there staring at the face of that huge step up will separate those that will actually man up and hit it.

I gotta agree with the age related factors of slowing a guy down and causing myself to re-think trying things that 15 years ago I wouldn't even have slowed down for. At 45 you heal a lot slower. I have a career that requires me to be in good physical condition. If I hurt myself sledding I'm screwed work wise and therefore financially.
If I get out with guys that are better sledders than myself I may attempt a bit more because I know they are there to help me out if I get badly buried...but I know my limitations and at this point in my life and I listen more to common sense than I used to. I have nothing to prove to anyone.
As far as practicing goes,
I agree with Rotax that my practice for sledding is done in the gym. Keeping in shape makes a world of difference of how your entire day goes.
