Homemade Vents-Way cheaper to make your own

hey guys just updating you on a project that i have been working on for my XP. Im making my own vents and they turned out pretty awesome. I have quite a bit more time into the set for my XP compared to the ones that im making for my dads M1000 but it is also going to turn out really cool. literally. the supplies for my kit only cost me 37 bucks so if you have any questions just ask them and i can try to help ya. The pieces of aluminum are JB Quik Welded together and they are super strong

Looks good, I make my own as well....also check out the black plastic rivets, looks good with black vents. :beer;

please try not to laugh at me, I just got an XP so a lot of this stuff is new to me, but what is the main reason so many of you are adding these vents? Is it a heat issue? Anything to do with the belt troubles? Thanks...

Getting heat out is always a good thing, may help with belt/clutch temps which can help performance and longevity.

how did you attach the prefilter to the aluminum edge?

The filter stuff i got at bomgaars. its actually stuff called insect screen. the way i attached it was, i cut a piece of the filter to the exact size and put it on the backside of the frame and then i used a big piece of the filter and put it on the outside of the frame, drilled the holes to match up with the holes already in my frame, and i wrapped it around the frame and made another hole in the filter so the rivet actually holds the filter down on the front and the back, and then i just trimmed the excess off in the inside of the panel with a razor blade. if you need pictures i can get some because i am still in the process of making the other side

alright, i will either go out right now and do the front triangle vent (because its the easiest) or i will do it tomorrow.

this might help to get a picture in your head of how it goes. so if you are looking at the vent on the side panel, the layers go:

1st layer of screen
aluminum
2nd layer of screen (cut to exact frame size)
1st layer of screen wrapped all the way around to the backside of the screen
-then a rivet going through all of that

I have been making my own vents using dog proof screen door material
from Home Depot and gluing it on the back of my panels with black 3M Super weatherstrip adhesive . Nearly indestructible as far as glue. One year decided
to redo some of the panels and make the holes larger, tried every chemical solvent in my shop and it wouldn't even leave a dent in the 3M glue. Had to go buy 3M's solvent to get the glue off.

Good Luck
