Hillcrew past experiences

Our son and his buddies have been part of the Jackson hillcrew now for several years. Started a thread in the racing section thanking those that helped us this year, but it got us thinking that we would like to hear from those that have been there, done that, as hillcrew, racers, or just spectators.

Theres got to be some wild stories out there about trying to stop those sleds from going the wrong direction, lets hear em!

A few years ago my buddy on hillcrew took a rock to the chest, luckly he had a teck vest on, but it still knocked the wind out of him.

Seen broken wrists and dislocated shoulders over the years, but this year it kind of hit close to home with our son getting his front top 4 teeth knocked out from the edge of a running board. Told him he needs to stick to kissing girls and not snowmobiles.

I'm trying to find the video from 2002 or 03 where Janet and sled went into the net at Jackson...

But here is what happens when you DON'T have a good hill crew (like the excellent ones at Jackson)....

White Pass HC... pictures never give a clue to how steep it is...Janet was caught but the sled was good bye (the best help came from a fellow racer.. you see Jason running in to help in picture 3 and 4)

How is your son doing? That was a pretty scary deal. Really cool that he was on the hill the next day. That should have got him some kisses from chicks right there.

I was there the year Craig took a rock to the tek vest. I was standing right next to him without a tek vest. I wear one now cause from the sound that impact made would have seriosly hurt him had he not had it on. Not sure if we are talking about the same guy but flying rocks hit people more than we think.

I've been doing JH hill help since '83 and have never been seriously hurt. You gotta be on your toes. Unlike the local guy who self appointed himself hill boss by bossing everyone around to not to do what he and his buddies were doing and took one of the Zollinger's right to the face. He was to close to the course and the racer suddenly got turned right and this guy took the bumper of the sled right in his grill. He tried to act tough and say he was fine but shortly left the hill.

It is the best seat in the house but it seems the interest is going away. Hill help has made some spectacular saves.

that was such a fun HC. Wish we still had that one.

He got the cast off wed, and looks like he gets to keep 3 out of the 4. The little one on the right has a 50 50 chance of staying put. This week they are going to reset his braces and give the front two root canals(fun fun).

All in all the dentists' here are pretty impressed at the job the surgeon did in Jackson considering what he had to work with. Thanks for asking.
