high mileage m1000

hey how high is high mileage on a M1000? is 3000 getting a little iffy?

A compression test and looking at the cylinders through the power valve ports and the Y-pipe will tell you everything you need to know about your engine. If it looks and test ok. Ride it............

x2 pistons

alot cheaper to do it know before they let go
its not fun to have the sled down for a couple weeks or more while you wait for you cylinders to be replated

Downtime sucks! I broke a piston late last season. The keeper in the ring groove that prevents the ring from rotating broke and the ring did a job from the exhaust port up and chunked the piston. Luckily shut her down immeadiatly and found all pieces of the ring.

If you've never done a top end, it's a pretty simple job, but kind of a pain. It'll take you about 2 hrs or so max.

I personally would not ride an m1000 with 3000 miles on the pistons, but the pistons are the only thing I would be worried about. Be sure to maintain the Diamond drive, that's probably the most likely thing to fail on an M sled.
