Please join me and members of my staff this April 5th - 12th at my community events throughout the district to share your opinions, ask questions about legislation currently in Congress, and seek help with federal agencies.

After several weeks in Washington, I am excited to be back in Colorado and look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Jared Polis

He's having lots of meetings, I've got an invitation out on the Colorado Hidden Gems sticky page inviting all motorized users to the meeting in Frisco. We'll have all kinds of no hidden gems signs.
We've really got to make an impression on him that this proposal is not well liked at all.

If any of you guys from the front range can attend some of the meetings down there, it sure would help. Can't let this opportunity slip by.
HC

We sat down with Hidden Gems to show them the areas that are important to us. They ignored us (and wasted our time) and have decided to move forward. Biggest loss in Eagle County would be Lower Piney at Red & White/Piney. This area stretches into Summit as well. They are doing this because of the lack of opposition. Wilderness Workshop feels Eagle/Summit County are theirs for the taking.

A little motivation to attend this meeting via the White Rvier Forest Alliances most recent press release

White River Forest Alliance Announces

Well our worst fears have came to fruition, the Eagle and Summit County part of the Hidden Gems Wilderness Proposal is now in Congressman Polis's hands on its way to Washington. We now know, all the Hidden Gems Wilderness Campaign's supposed "attempts" at public outreach was nothing more than a stall tactic as they attempted to divide and conquer the public one little piece at a time. They purposely avoided hosting any large open public meetings for fear that such a meeting would derail their divide and conquer tactics as they attempted to check stake holders, clubs, towns and counties off their list one check at a time. This has been a divide and conquers campaign at its finest.

Regardless of the best attempts by WRFA and the many other different stakeholder groups to try and work with the Hidden Gems campaign to develop a better public input process. Hidden Gems has chosen to move on without this much needed outreach process. Rather than continue to work with the different stakeholders and groups to gain more public input and come up with a proposal everyone could get behind, Hidden Gems campaign has choose to move on with their proposal "as is".

Here is a little basic summary of what is going to happen.

Tomorrow in the paper you are going to most likely read the following.

The proposal is being broke into two parts.

Part one, which is in Congressional district 2 which is Polis's district, includes Summit and Eagle Counties. This part of the proposal is moving forward at this time.

Part two, which is in Congressional district 3 which is Salazar's district, includes Garfield, Pitkin, Mesa, Delta and Gunnison Counties. This part is NOT moving forward at this time.

The District 2 part is now in Polis's hands. What he does with it now is anyone's guess. All we can do is make every effort to make it well known this thing does not have public support. Hidden Gems is trying to paint a picture that everyone, but a slight few are on board with this, we need to show the public otherwise. It is time to contact town, county, state officials, congressmen and senators and let them know we do not support this bill and we see it for what it is, a badly thought out proposal driven by special interests. This proposal has never had a proper public process and it's true colors are showing through.

Hope to see some ANTI-HIDDEN GEMS PEOPLE IN LARGE NUMBERS........in Frederick this evening.

How did it go? Tonight was our montly club meeting. We had a good discussion on Hidden Gems and I think people are motivated to send more letters to Udall, Bennett, Polis, county commissioners and others. It seems useless, but the more opposition we show at this point, the better off we are.

Tonight was definitely a "town meeting". Polis was there fielding many questions and the big issues in Washington: Health care, Immigration, Energy and the like. It only took a few minutes before the first question was proposed to him about the Hidden Gems campaign and his support of it.

IMO.......He flat out lied on a couple questions. He was asked if supported the Hidden Gems campaign and he didn't say he did BUT, he also said he really "didn't know much about it" and that the latest, formal proposal (IE regarding HG moving forward in Summit and Eagle counties) was in his office and he had not yet read it. That may be true, but I don't believe (after all these months of meetings and media coverage) that he doesn't know much about it.

He was also asked if he had met with the Hidden Gems personnel and he said he didn't think so and then asked one of his staffers if he actually had. :face-icon-small-con Completely tried to not address the question. (Again, IMO he may have actually answered correctly by saying he hasn't met with the "Hidden Gems personnel" because they don't exist............The Wilderness Workshop is the personnel behind the "Hidden Gems Campaign".)
It's a potential play on words that I don't think was answered in honest, true terms. Hopefully everyone follows me here.

Once the first question was asked, he asked how many were there specifically for the Hidden Gems campaign (against it) and about 1/2 of the room raised their hands. The other people were there to talk about the other issues as I mentioned earlier. He stated he would not have time tonight to address everyone on the HG agenda but that there would be meetings in Summit and Eagle counties coming up soon and everyone was invited.

For people with questions to be asked this evening, we were passed off to one of his staffers that runs his Frisco office.

He (Polis) also mentioned a few times that this was an issue in Eagle and Summit counties. (Very much trying to down-play the significance this has elsewhere and the other counties which are HUGE players IE: Pitkin, Garfield, Rio Blanco and Mesa counties)

Don't settle, don't be complacent, don't rest. This issue is not going away and WE HAVE NOT LOST!! We need to be aggressive (in a non-physical way :face-icon-small-hap) and keep attending these meetings..........pounding away that we are against this campaign (Hidden Gems) and proposal by the Wilderness Workshop.

Keep public lands public for all to enjoy for generations!!

Thanks for reading.

He needs to be pressed on the issue. How can he say he doesn't know much about the Hidden Gems, wasn't he the one that presented it to congress as a sponsor?

He is trying to get people to go to the Eagle and Summit county meetings because he deosn't want the ****storm of people being pissed off in the large voting districts. Population wise Eagle and Summit cannot hurt him too badly in an election. If people are pissed from larger voting counties there is no way for him to get re-elected.

I would honestly say our best chance is to force his hand. People from these larger areas need to get involved and make it a point to force him to answer questions at these meetings. We can't let him dictate that these questions will only be answered in Eagle and Summit county. That is damage control on his part.

While the proposed wilderness is in Eagle and Summit counties it effects anyone that rides there, it changes tourism for the entire state. It is not just limited to these places.

Did not make this meeting I ended up at the CO state Parks planning meeting in Centennial.

My understanding is that Polis people agreed to schedule a hidden gems specific meeting in the near future. I guess if we have to drive up that is okay but would hope this would be down in the Frederick area. I will keep my calender open for it.

That sounds great but I would rather one of his current town hall meetings address this. That way people who do not know about this will see how many people are against it. The problem with a specific meeting is that people that don't know about the issue don't go.

Polis must have adopted the Sgt Shultz defense on this becasue I was just on his site and he has a slide show of him walking with an environemental group in a forest that would become wilderness under hiddden gems on the front page!

He needs to be pressed on the issue. How can he say he doesn't know much about the Hidden Gems, wasn't he the one that presented it to congress as a sponsor?

He hasn't presented it to Congress yet. The final draft of the Eagle/Summit side was delivered to him by the Wilderness Workshop. Now he can move it forward. There is still time to create a ruckess and keep pressuring him.

He does not about this. This is politics at a basic level. He is controlling the outpour and keeping the bleeding down by playing dumb. He probably hasn't read the entire document (128 pages) but he is very aware of what is going on with the split and what is proposed in general.

It appears that he is in the Denver area for a while and doing a bunch of community forums. Maybe we need to start showing up at all of these and asking questions. I am sure white river forest alliance has plenty of materials we could use

I could not get the next link on his site to work so I am not sure what his schedule is beyond this. I am going to bring up going to another meeting with Polis tonight at our sled club meeting.

We need to make all of these we (as a collective, motorized group) possibly can. If there is a meeting in your area, grab your buddies and go!!

If the precedent gets started folks............it will be a long, uphill battle.

Fight the good fight, as they say.
