Great looking site you guys have here, and I'm glad to be onboard. I've been told by a friend that there are some very knowledgable people here, so I'm hoping for some help with my 2006 Apex mountain.
Bought the sled last year with only 700k on it. It was like new but the hyfax was worn pretty thin, so I thought I would fix it right the first time and upgrade to hyperfax and scratchers, problem fixed, well sort of.
I first noticed it last year and didn't think much of it, but this year it has gotten a little more serious. I ride mostly flat land up in northern Alberta, so we get a fair amount of snow.
This problem seems to happen only when riding deeper snow and in longer distances. It started out last year with the plastic tips at the end of the skid wearing down, and after a riding in two to three feet of powder all day this past weekend the very tip of the hyfax is also wearing down with one side wearing right through and scuffing the rail a little bit. I realize that when riding in deep snow the tip of your skid is probably sticking out and not getting much cooling from the snow, but how is it possible for a turn up rail to come in contact with the track? I just don't understand it, and and no Idea how to stop it. Track to loose maybe, with the surface of the snow is pushing the track against the tip of the skid causing excessive heat melting the tips and hyfax? Anybody with any previous experience in this sort of problem? Any help in this matter would be so much appreciated, thanks.
